Dodgers Teoscar Hernandez Likely to Injured List; James Outman Recalled

The Los Angeles Dodgers are dealing with more injuries and roster moves. Right fielder Teoscar Hernandez is undergoing an MRI today and will be placed on the Injured List with a left groin strain, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Outfielder James Outman has been brought up from Triple-A Oklahoma City, but the corresponding roster move is yet to be announced.

Injuries are all too familiar for the Dodgers and Teoscar Hernandez. He felt his hamstring and abductor tighten up after chasing a line drive in the bottom of the third inning last night. Manager Dave Roberts characterized the abductor strain as Grade 1, and said Hernandez will be “inactive for a while.” There is no timetable for his return.

“Mr. Clutch”

Since donning “Dodger Blue” in 2024, Hernandez has been a fan favorite. He has proven a knack for driving in runs when the team needs them. This year is no exception as the right fielder leads the major leagues in runs batted in with 34. He also has nine homers and has a .315 batting average. Needless to say, Los Angeles will miss his production.

Outman’s Redemption Tour?

This injury gives outfielder James Outman a chance to prove himself once again. In 2023, Outman was runner-up for the Rookie of the Year Award. However, it was a struggle to find offensive consistency over the next two years. After spring training this year, Andy Pages bested Outman for the final roster spot. However, he has multiple multi-hit games in the last 20-game sample size with six home runs. The cautionary note: he is still striking out 30 percent of the time.

When it Rains it Pours

Dave Roberts also announced that Tommy Edman, with an injured ankle, will not be coming off the I.L. unit until the 10-game road trip ends. Edman was eligible to return in Arizona, but the ankle “is just not responding. Hyeseong Kim will be on the roster for a while longer.

Vin Scully used to say, “Nothing comes easy for the Dodgers.” He was right.
