The New York Mets have signed free agent veteran left-hander A.J. Minter, per SNY’s Andy Martino. The deal is worth 2-years, for $22 million. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the contract has an opt-out after the first year. With the expected departure of first baseman Pete Alonso, the Mets are now pivoting to adding more depth to the bullpen. After the team recently brought back Jesse Winker, they’ve reportedly added Minter to help in the bullpen. Minter brings a veteran presence to the Mets and valuable postseason experience. The 31-year-old has spent the last eight seasons with the Atlanta Braves, posting solid numbers in his tenure. As well as being a part of the “Night Shift” bullpen that helped Atlanta win its first World Series in 26 years.

New York Mets Sign A.J. Minter
After being drafted 75th overall by the Braves in 2015, Minter made his MLB debut August 23, 2017, against the Seattle Mariners. Minter was a part of a massive rebuild by Atlanta nearly a decade ago. Emerging as one of the Braves top relief pitching options for many seasons. In Atlanta, he posted a 24-29 record, pitching to an ERA of 3.28 in 348.2 innings pitched in his Braves tenure.
In the 2024 season Minter had solid numbers out of the bullpen, pitching to a 2.62 ERA as well as 1.1 WAR. Unfortunately for Minter, injuries plagued a good part of his season. Having to land on the injured list twice and ultimately had season ending hip surgery.
