Marlins Star Pitcher Will Miss Start Due to Sore Elbow

Jesús Luzardo Has Elbow Discomfort

This injury comes at a time when Jesus Luzardo is struggling to return to his former glory. In 2023 Luzardo had a 3.58 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP in 178.2 innings pitched. The lefty was able to get hitters to swing and had 9.9K/9. He was emerging as a new young star with the Marlins. When the news broke that Alcantara was out, Luzardo was the focus to replace him. He became the top-of-the-rotation and Opening Day starter for the Marlins. So far in 2024 though he has failed to live up to his expectations. In his five starts this season, he is 0-2 with a 6.58 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 26 innings. His most recent start against the Chicago Cubs was his best. Luzardo went six innings only earning two runs on three hits.

With four of their starting pitchers out the Marlins rotations looks to be up in the air. Edward Cabrera just returned from a shoulder injury last week so we could look to be seeing him more often. In addition, the Marlins have a young weapon in the minors in Max Meyer who had a 2.12 ERA in his three starts before getting dealt back to the minors. These two can hopefully get the rotation back on track.
