The Yankees Are Off to One of Their Best Starts in History

The New York Yankees have come out of the gate hot, going 6-1 and tying the second-best start in team history. What do the other 155 games have in store for the pinstripes?

Yankees Tie Second-Best Start in Franchise History

Yankees Get It Going Early

Few people in the Yankees’ orbit expected this start, but many are appreciating it right now. Through the first week of the season, the Yankees have gone 6-1 and have flat-out brought it offensively. They’ve scored 32 runs in that span.

What makes it more impressive is who they’ve done it against. Starting the year off on a seven-game road trip, they swept an Astros team that was just in the ALCS and won the series against the defending NL Champion Diamondbacks. New York’s start has been historic as it ties the franchise’s second-best start ever.

Newcomers Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo have been big reasons for the early success – each having signature Yankee moments early and often in this stretch. Whether it was Soto’s game-saving throw against Houston or Verdugo’s go-ahead homer against Arizona, General Manager Brian Cashman’s offseason moves have been paying early dividends.

What’s Next For New York?

A 6-1 start is amazing, but it is still only seven games into the season. The Bombers still have 155 to go, so what can fans expect from them? Sadly, 161-1 is a tad unrealistic. While they are winning games, New York has demonstrated some flaws. Seven errors and a lineup that has heavily relied on three players (Soto, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Anthony Volpe) for production could spell trouble in the future, but it doesn’t mean this team is doomed to repeat 2023 by any means.

The bullpen has been fantastic, the rotation has held up without their Cy-Young winning ace Gerrit Cole, and the offense has shown it’s got some fight in it – snagging four come-from-behind wins already. If they can keep this momentum going, this team could be in for a memorable season.

Either way, New York has started the year off on a great note and will look to keep it going against the Toronto Blue Jays during their opening home series.
