Baseball Bets for July 22nd

baseball bets July 22nd

The New York Mets and Boston Red Sox game was suspended in the fourth inning last night due to rain. Outside of that one, we finished the day 2-2 and in the green! The Mets were winning that game at the time of suspension. However, Senga will most definitely not hit the over on strikeouts now. Let’s take a look at three more games from today and make our picks for baseball bets on July 22nd.

Baseball Bets for July 22nd

The Headliner: Blue Jays @ Mariners

The Toronto Blue Jays look to bounce back from last night’s loss in today’s contest against the Seattle Mariners. On the mound for the Blue Jays will be Kevin Gausman. In 19 starts, he carries a 3.03 ERA across 115 2/3 innings with 153 strikeouts and a 1.13 WHIP. Over his last seven, he carries a 3.54 ERA across 40 2/3 innings with 53 strikeouts and a 1.16 WHIP. While still not bad, he has not performed as well on the road. In 10 road starts, he sports a 3.51 ERA across 56 1/3 innings with 68 strikeouts and a 1.28 WHIP. He has one start against the Mariners this season. In that start, he allowed no runs through seven innings on six hits, one walk, and struck out 13. I would not expect a start in that ilk today, but one not far from it.

The Mariners counter with Logan Gilbert. A mainstay of this series, he has made 19 starts this season. He carries a 3.65 ERA across 113 1/3 innings with 111 strikeouts and a 1.01 WHIP. Over his last seven, he carries a 3.40 ERA across 42 1/3 innings with 32 strikeouts and a 1.09 WHIP. Gilbert has performed worse at home. In eight home starts, he sports a 4.21 ERA across 47 innings with 47 strikeouts and a 1.11 WHIP. Where this will be Gausman’s first start since the All-Star break, this will be Gilbert’s second. He went five innings in his first, allowing two runs (both earned) on seven hits, one walk, and struck out five. Expect another low-scoring affair in this one, with the visitors evening the series.

End the Skid: Phillies @ Guardians

The Philadelphia Phillies look to end their three-game losing streak in game two of their weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians. In doing so, they will send Zack Wheeler to the mound. In 19 starts, Wheeler carries a 4.04 ERA across 111 1/3 innings with 126 strikeouts and a 1.16 WHIP. Over his last seven, he carries a 3.59 ERA across 42 2/3 innings with 47 strikeouts and a 1.08 WHIP. In nine road starts, Wheeler sports a 4.06 ERA across 51 innings with 60 strikeouts and a 1.24 WHIP. Wheeler will look to perform his duties as the staff ace and end the losing streak the Phillies currently find themselves on.

The Guardians will counter with rookie Tanner Bibee. In 14 starts, Bibee has a 3.32 ERA across 76 innings with 77 strikeouts and a 1.26 WHIP. Over his last seven, he has a 3.44 ERA across 36 2/3 innings with 37 strikeouts and a 1.42 WHIP. Bibee has been lights out at home. In seven road starts, he boasts a 2.31 ERA across 39 innings with 39 strikeouts and a 1.10 WHIP. After the Guardians’ pitching staff loaded the bases on three different occasions in last night’s game, and only allowed the Phillies to go 1-7 with RISP, look for the Phillies’ offense to come out firing in this one.

Sometimes the “Gimme’s” Are the Hardest: Orioles @ Rays

The series draws back even as the Baltimore Orioles drop last night’s game to the Tampa Bay Rays. Looking to reclaim the series, and the divisional, lead, the Orioles will send rookie Grayson Rodriguez to the mound. In 11 starts, the former top prospect sports a 7.33 ERA across 50 1/3 innings with 60 strikeouts and a 1.75 WHIP. Over his last seven, he carries an 8.71 ERA across 31 innings with 35 strikeouts and a 1.84 WHIP. Despite still struggling, Rodriguez has been better on the road. In five road starts, he carries a 5.32 ERA across 23 2/3 innings with 31 strikeouts and a 1.31 WHIP. In his first start against the Rays, he allowed two runs (both earned), on seven hits, and two walks, and struck out four in 5 2/3 innings.

The Rays will be sending Cy Young candidate Shane McClanahan to the mound. In 18 starts, McClanahan has a 2.56 ERA across 102 innings with 107 strikeouts and a 1.13 WHIP. Over his last seven, he carries a 3.55 ERA across 38 innings with 32 strikeouts and a 1.13 WHIP. If Bibee from above has been lights out at home, McClanahan has been a black hole. In eight home starts, McClanahan boasts a 1.89 ERA across 47 2/3 innings with 56 strikeouts and a 0.92 WHIP. On paper, this shakes out to be an easy win for the home team. Games are not played on paper, however, which is why this one has the littlest amount of units attached to it.
