Blaze Jordan 2020 MLB Draft Profile

Blaze Jordan

The number one rated overall player in the 2021 class, Blaze Jordan is now considered to be one of the top picks in the 2020 MLB draft. The longtime Mississippi State commit recently graduated from DeSoto Central High School in Southhaven, Mississippi. He reclassified from the 2021 class and graduated early making him eligible for the 2020 draft.

A baseball phenom, Jordan’s name has been popping up in scouting circles since his freshman year of high school. The YouTube sensation has built a huge cult following after launching two 500 foot home runs at the age of only 13. His raw power and young age make him one of the most intriguing prospects in the entire draft.

Strengths

Jordan stands 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 222 lbs and, he’s only 17 years old. Since a young age, scouts have raved about his unbelievable power. His size and pro-ready swing allow him to generate towering home runs and one of the top exit velocities among amateur players at well over 100 MPH.

The right-hander has shown the ability to hit to all parts of the field. He uses his shortened swing to make it difficult for pitchers who treat him as only a power hitter. It’s this bat control that could potentially propel Jordan into the early part of the first round.

He currently projects at one of the corner infield spots and has shown a solid glove at third base after spending the majority of his career at first base. Jordan projects well at either first or third and definitely has the power to keep himself in the lineup at either position. He is also young enough to grow into manning down the hot corner if the team that drafts him has a need there. Either way, Jordan has the ideal size that all teams look for and, in a worst-case scenario, could fill an outfield spot if he can’t adjust to playing in the infield.

Weaknesses

Despite the amazing power, Blaze Jordan still has to prove that he can make consistent contact. When playing against older competition, Jordan went through a period of swings and misses. Should he decide to sign with an MLB club, there will no doubt be some growing pains at the plate for the power-first hitter. He will have to learn, as all young hitters do, patience and discipline at the plate and prove that he’s not just a one-trick pony.

Also, there is some concern about Jordan’s size. Despite his height and weight being impressive for a 17-year-old, the worry is that he may already be maxed out in height and size. As he projects as a first or third baseman, his 6-foot-2 frame can be seen as a bit undersized for both positions. However, his age is also an advantage as he still has room to grow and would be with trainers and coaches that will help him maximize his growing potential.

MLB Comp

Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies is a player that Blaze Jordan compares well to. Both stand around the same height and weigh approximately the same. Both possess unbelievable power and were considered future stars from a young age. Looking at their swings, they almost mirror images of each other with the only difference being that Harper hits from the left side and Jordan from the right. Both have short, compact swings that generate power from their hips launching the ball up and out of the stadium.

The team drafting Jordan would obviously love to have the next Bryce Harper on their team. There’s a long way to go, but Blaze Jordan has certainly shown the potential to be exactly that caliber of player in the future.
