Adam Jones Signs With Orix Buffaloes

Outfielder Adam Jones has signed with the Orix Buffaloes of the Nippon Professional Baseball League in Japan. The contract is for eight million dollars guaranteed for two years with a third-year option. With the third-year option and incentives over the first two seasons, Jones could make a potential 15.5 million dollars.

Adam Jones Career

Adam Jones 34, is a 14-year veteran playing with three different teams with the majority of his career as a member of the Baltimore Orioles. Jones has a career .277 batting average with 282 HR and 945 RBI.

After two seasons with the Seattle Mariners where Jones only played in 73 games, he was traded to the Orioles. As the Orioles floundered the last few seasons Jones had a chance to be traded to a team in playoff contention. As a 10-5 player Jones vetoed any attempt to trade him. Jones signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks prior to the 2019 season.

Jones is a five-time all-star, a four-time gold glove winner and also has one silver slugger award. He has been one of the most durable players in recent memory. His 137 games played this past season was his lowest since the 2009 season where he played in 119 games.

Orix Buffaloes

The Orix Buffaloes were established in 1936 and have been in the Pacific League is the Nippon Professional Baseball league since 1950. During the 2004 Nippon League realignment, the Orix BlueWave and the Kinetsu Buffaloes merged creating the Orix Buffaloes.

The combined team began in 2005. They split home games between the Kobe Sports Park Baseball Stadium and the Osaka Dome. The Orix group owns the Buffaloes. The Orix group is a leading diversified financial services company based in Tokyo.

Jones joins other former major league players Steven Moya, Stefen Romero, Chris Marrero, Andrew Albers, Brandon Dickson, and Tyler Eppler as members of the Orix Buffaloes.
