Cavan Biggio Cycles the Blue Jays

Cavan Biggio managed to hit for the cycle tonight in Baltimore. After striking out at his first at-bat, Biggio got a hit in each of his next four at-bats to complete this incredible feat. The 24-year-old hit his 14th HR of the season in the third inning to give the Toronto Blue Jays the lead. Biggio hit a single to start the Blue Jays 6th inning. In the 8th inning, Biggio doubled to the wall, and in the 9th he hit a triple to center field completing the cycle. Cavan drove in four runs which led the Blue Jays to the 8-5 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Cycle of Facts

Cavan’s cycle is 330th cycle hit in the history of Major League Baseball, and the sixth cycle hit in the 2019 season so far.

After tonight, Cavan Biggio joins Kelly Gruber and Jeff Frye as the only Blue Jays to hit for the cycle. Gruber hit the first cycle in Blue Jays history on April 16, 1990, against the Kansas City Royals. Jeff Frye hit the second cycle on August 17, 2001, against the Texas Rangers. Biggio is also the first non-third baseman to hit for the cycle in Blue Jays history.

In addition, his father Craig Biggio hit for the cycle back when he was playing with the Houston Astros. Craig hit his cycle back on April 8, 2002, against the Colorado Rockies. As a result, the Biggio’s are now the second father and son duo to hit for the cycle. They now join Gary Ward (1980) and Daryle Ward (2004) as the only other father-son duo to both hit for the cycle.

Furthermore, Cavan Biggio stole two bases in the game against the Orioles. Which makes him the first person to steal two or more bases in a game where they hit for the Cycle since Charlie Moore did it for the Milwaukee Brewers back in 1980 against the then California Angels. Not to mention he is the first rookie to hit for the cycle since Cody Bellinger back in 2017.

Biggio’s Outlook

While Cavan Biggio’s rookie season has been promising, this feat is certainly the cherry on top. As Biggio will be a member of the Blue Jays for many years to come, fans can expect Cavan to give it his all. While the Blue Jays young core has been exciting to watch, this feat shows that every game is an important one.
