Cleveland Indians right-handed starting pitcher Trevor Bauer has been traded to the Cincinnati Reds, according to Ken Rosenthal. In exchange, the Indians received Yasiel Puig, Franmil Reyes, and Logan Allen. This is a three-team trade, so the San Diego Padres receive Taylor Trammell. Bauer spent the majority of his minor league career with the Arizona Diamondbacks before joining the Cleveland Indians prior to the 2013 season.

Trevor Bauer has taken a step back from his Cy Young-caliber season in 2017. While he’s still been effective, the righty has accumulated a 3.69 ERA and a 4.27 FIP through 17 starts. The 28-year old is striking out 9.77 batters per nine innings while issuing 3.69 free passes per nine.

While 2018 has been in line with a normal season, Bauer had a career year in 2018. Taking the mound for 175.1 innings, the former third overall pick posted a 2.21 ERA and a 2.44 FIP in 28 appearances (27 starts). He posted an elite 11.34 K/9 rate and walked 2.93 batters per nine innings. His impressive season earned him a spot on the All-Star team as well as a sixth-place finish in the All-Star voting.

Throughout his eight seasons in the league, Bauer has recorded a 3.91 ERA and a 3.87 FIP in 1,000.0 innings of work. He’s accumulated a 15.9 fWAR while posting a career 9.28 K/9 and a 3.55 BB/9. He forced ground balls 42.7% of the time and strands 73.7% of his baserunners.

It’s worth noting that Bauer will not hit unrestricted free agency until the 2021 season. Bauer is on the books for $13 million and will hit the next level of arbitration over the 2020 off-season.

Bauer initially joined the professional baseball ranks as the third overall pick in the 2011 June Amateur Draft. Selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks, Bauer climbed through the ranks and made his major league debut in 2012. However, the Diamondbacks sent Bauer away in a three-team deal which included Shin-Soo Choo and Didi Gregorius.
