Paul Molitor Signs Three-Year Extension

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have signed their manager, Paul Molitor, to a three year contract extension.

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have signed their manager, Paul Molitor, to a three-year contract extension. In a move that was expected by many, the deal will keep Molitor on board until 2020. Molitor’s contract was set to expire at the end of this season. Molitor took the Twins back to the postseason for the first time in 7 years in a Wild Card game loss to the New York Yankees. The Twins, under Molitor, became the first team in MLB history to go from 100 plus losses to the postseason the following year. At a record of 85-77, the Wild Card race was nail biting until the very end. The Twins clinched when the Los Angeles Angels lost to the Chicago White Sox on September 28th.

Paul Molitor Signs Three-Year Extension

Molitor has been a huge help to the Twins since arriving after the firing of Ron Gardenhire on September 30th, 2014. In Molitor’s three short years at the helm, he has a total record of 227-259. Now this may not seem impressive, but last season was his only losing season so far in his tenure. His first season at the helm, the team went 83-79 but just missed the second Wild Card spot. Last year, the team had a rough stretch going 59-103 in a year where everything seemed to go wrong for the Twins. This year, along with the new General Manager Thad Levine and the new CBO and executive Vice President Derek Falvey, Molitor turned the Twins around to regain postseason glory.

Molitor’s playing career is also quite impressive. In 21 years in the league, Molitor batted .306 with 234 home runs. Molitor was also the recipient of three Silver Sluggers and was nominated to the All-Star Game seven times, four of them being consecutive. Molitor is also considered by many a leading candidate for the American League Manager of the Year Award.
