Playoff baseball is magical at any time, and any level, the playoffs will continue in this year for D. J. Peters. The MVP of the California League for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, and one of the Los Angeles Dodgers top prospects, has been promoted to Double-A. The right-handed, power-hitting center fielder for the Dodgers had a fantastic season in the California League.
Playoffs Continue in Tulsa for D. J. Peters
Peters has consistently knocked in runs while batting in the middle of the Quakes’ lineup this season. The 21-year-old talent has not only excelled at the plate, he also excelled playing all three outfield positions, with the majority of his time in center field. Peters led the Cal League in slugging percentage, was second in walks, third in home runs and total bases, and (tied) fourth in RBI in his MVP campaign.
Peters’ Promotion to Tulsa
Respectful, humble, and friendly are all adjectives that describe D. J. Peters well. At 6’ 6” and 225 lbs, D. J. Peters is a mountain of a man who tracks fly balls in the outfield with the speed, quickness and anticipation of a mountain lion pouncing on his prey. Before the California League playoffs, DJ Peters was quoted as saying that he wants to play for a championship ring this season. Although that quest has ended in High-A Rancho Cucamonga, it begins anew for Peters with the Double-A Tulsa Drillers.
“It’s an absolute blessing. It feels great,” Peters said about his promotion. “I’m pumped up for this amazing opportunity the Los Angeles Dodgers have given me. Whenever you get the chance to help a good team win a championship, it’s always a great feeling.”
Peters knows all about that, helping the Loons win a ring in the Midwest League in 2016. He went on to say, “…the organization has enough faith and believes in me enough to promote me and have the chance to help win a championship, there’s no better feeling. I cannot wait to get out there and play some more playoff baseball.”

One of the top prospects in the Dodgers organization (ranked No. 17 by MLB.com) D. J. Peters is a shining star in the making. Detractors and critics will point to his strikeouts, he is developing and refining his craft. It will not be easy the entire way. With his sweet swing, quick hands and strong frame, he will hit baseballs far for years to come. Pedro Montero, Dodgers Minor League Instructor / DSL / AZL Coach, is quoted as saying “D. J. Peters is a freak of nature in center fielder”. Look for D. J. to start next season in Double-A Tulsa and progress into AAA Oklahoma City by season’s end. D. J. Peters is projected to reach the Dodgers big league club by 2019. Just one more reason, the Dodgers have such a bright future on the horizon.
