Blayne Enlow 2017 MLB Draft Profile

Pitching is at a premium throughout baseball. Good right-handed pitching with nasty breaking stuff comes at a price. If the right team picks up the phone in the first round, they could find a potential treat in Blayne Enlow.

Blayne Enlow 2017 MLB Draft Profile

Overview

A tall 18-year-old from Sorrento, Louisiana, Enlow’s rounds in the prep and tour circuits have made him well known. He is an above average student, and has verbally committed to Louisiana State University. He claimed 2017 First-Team All-American honors from Rawlings-Perfect Game.

Strengths

Enlow’s velocity currently tops out around 93 miles per hour. At 6’4″ and slated to hit 200 pounds at peak size, he will probably pick up a few clicks on the heater. As good as that is, scout rate his curveball not as the best prep curve, but as the best curve in the entire draft. Prep hitters in Louisiana cannot handle his curve, and because of that he is basically a two-pitch pitcher. Hidden within his repertoire is a straight change-up that he can break out if he needs its. However, he relies mainly on the heater and the curve. A product of St. Amant high school, Enlow’s 12-6 curve is a nightmare for the hitters on the circuit. He should wind up in the middle of a rotation, if a team can pull him away from LSU.

Weaknesses

Enlow relies heavily on two pitches with different delivery. In the pros, when there will be scouts learning his every move, the two pitches alone will not cut it. He will have to develop his other off-speed offerings to disguise his fastball. Also, young pitchers must be careful not to blow their arms up trying to get ready for the big leagues; however, his delivery is repeatable, so this should not be a scare for any team looking at Enlow.
