On Sunday at New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Summer Struggle, Tetsuya Naito and SANADA defeated Dangerous Tekkers to win the IWGP Tag Team Championships. Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr.‘s second reign with the championships ends at 40 days. After the match, Naito thanked SANADA for getting him back into the tag team scene after a decade chasing singles gold. This is their first reign as champions together.
Tetsuya Naito and SANADA now have a new opportunity as Los Ingobernables de Japon now hold both the IWGP Tag Team Championships and the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship via Shingo Takagi. Naito’s re-entry into the tag team division was a welcome one. As stated prior, his decade away after his tag team with Yujiro Takahashi, NO LIMIT, broke up makes this feel incredibly fresh. Overall, this is his second time holding these tag team titles.
SANADA, on the other hand, is now a three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion. His first two reigns came alongside EVIL, who was his tag partner up until leaving Los Ingobernables de Japon for Bullet Club in 2020.
With Wrestle Grand Slam coming up in two weeks’ time, it will be interesting to see if Naito and SANADA will make their first defense or not. Dangerous Tekkers in a rematch seems likely for the new champions.
