“Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner is one of the most polarizing but interesting figures professional wrestling has ever had. The “Genetic Freak” is a decorated athlete whether it was in amateur wrestling or the world of pro wrestling. He was one-half of one of the most dominant tag teams in the 90s with his brother Rick Steiner. Collectively known as The Steiner Brothers, they tore through anyone and everyone they could get their hands on while winning so much gold in the process. When Steiner ventured off on his own, he won multiple titles, including the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
Outside of the ring though, Steiner has been known to say some very outrageous things in his time in the business. Whether it was calling Stephanie McMahon some very unsavory things to threatening to beat up Ric Flair due to the bad blood between them. And allegedly, threatening Hulk Hogan which resulted in him being banned from WWE Hall of Fame Ceremonies, Steiner is a Gatling gun ready to spew out anything he feels he needs to say. But fans fondly, depending on who you ask, remember a certain promo he cut before the events of TNA’s 2008 pay-per-view Sacrifice. In this promo, Steiner crunched the numbers on the chances of one Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle in defeating him en route to the big event. So let’s take a look at Scott Steiner’s memorable and infamous Math promo.
Background:
At the 2007 edition of TNA’s Turning Point event, Steiner competed in the “Feast or Fired Match.” When it was all said and done, he won one of the briefcases which meant a shot at Kurt Angle’s TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle were ready to go at it one on one at Sacrifice. Then, Steiner inserted himself into the match and cashed in on his rightful opportunity making the contest a three-way. In hindsight, this was a big-time match between three of the most dominant figures in wrestling at the time. But, Steiner’s fascination with figures made the build-up to the match all the more memorable and hyped up the event as only Scott Steiner could.
War of The Words: Scott Steiner Mathematically Dismantles his Opponents
With Rhaka Khan and “Little Petey Pump” Petey Williams by his side, Steiner was asked how he would fare against two of his opponents in tag team action. Scott Steiner went on a tangent unlike any other as he said the following words:
“You know they say all men are created equal,” Steiner said. “But, you at look at me and you look at Samoa Joe and you can see that statement is not true! See, normally if you go one-on-one with another wrestler you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But I’m a genetic freak, and I’m not normal!”
See, that is a fair assessment on the part of Scott Steiner. He is indeed one of the most dominant beings this industry has ever dare see. Any opponent across from him will have their chances lowered in terms of winning when they go up against “Freakzilla” himself. But this promo isn’t just an ordinary one. Scott Steiner goes on to measure their chances of winning. And explained how he will come out of this battle victorious and elaborates on the cold, hard figures.
“So you got a twenty five percent at best at beat me! And then you add Kurt Angle to the mix? The chances of winning drastically go down. See, the three-way at Sacrifice, you got a thirty three and a third chance of winning. But I! I got a sixty six and two-thirds chance of winning, cuz Kurt Angle KNOWS he can’t beat me, and he’s not even gonna try.”
Steiner proceeds to hammer the point home that neither Samoe Joe nor Kurt Angle stood a batter’s chance at beating him at Sacrifice. Even René Descartes couldn’t have explained it any better.
“So, Samoa Joe, you take your thirty three and a third chance minus my twenty five percent chance and you got an eight and a third chance of winning at Sacrifice. But then you take my 75 perchance-chance of winnin’ (if we was to go one on one), and then add sixty six and two thirds…percents, I got a one hundred fourty one and two-thirds chance of winning at Sacrifice! See Samoa Joe? The numbers don’t lie, and they spell disaster for you at Sacrifice.”
“Big Poppa Pump” proceeds to break it down for all his “freaks” and asked the question. Who would they rather be with? Scott Steiner himself or Samoa Joe? The interviewer went on to say that she found Joe to be quite the nice guy. Steiner did not like that and called her one of the people who liked romance more than a good time. Scott Steiner would end this very fascinating math lesson by simply stating he and Petey Williams will beat Angle and Joe in a tag team contest. And at Sacrifice, Steiner was confident he would 100 percent become the TNA World Heavyweight Champion.

Aftermath:
As fans might know now, Steiner did not win the world championship at Sacrifice. Samoa Joe came out on top in the contest, hoisting up the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at the end of the night. And unfortunately for Steiner, he tore his ACL in the match. His injury required surgery for it to be fixed up leaving Steiner on the shelf. Kurt Angle, on the other hand, didn’t even compete in the match. He had to give up his spot to Frankie Kazarian. Due to a very real neck injury, Angle also had to vacate the title.
Scott Steiner’s math promo will forever be etched in professional wrestling history as one of the most outrageous, interesting, and, some might say confusing promos of all time. Steiner has had some memorable times on the mic before and after this particular war of the words. But this will live in the minds of his freaks as long as professional wrestling is alive.
