Preview: IMPACT Wrestling – Deaner vs Something Tables Match (2/23/21)

IMPACT Wrestling Card

Another exciting episode of IMPACT Wrestling takes place this Tuesday on AXS TV, with the stakes on this card raised way up. Grudge matches consume the attention of the IMPACT competitors this week, including a potential final collision between Deaner (FKA Cody Deaner) and his cousin Jake Something. Plus, the anticipation of another AEW or NJPW invasion is ever-present in the atmosphere of the IMPACT Zone, with FinJuice (Juice Robinson and David Finlay) appearing on IMPACT last week representing the Japanese company. Here’s everything to look forward to on this week’s card for IMPACT Wrestling on AXS TV.

Knockouts Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Match
Kimber Lee & Susan vs. Jordynne Grace & Jazz

At No Surrender a couple of weeks ago, Fire N Flavawas victorious against the defiant team of Havok and Neveah in the finals of the Knockouts Tag Team Championship Tournament. In that tournament, Jordynne Grace and Jazz were knocked out in the semifinals by the former team. This was a very disappointing outcome, as Grace and Jazz were the sympathetic favorites going into the tournament, with Jazz wrestling every match like it could be her last. The powerhouse duo looks for redemption in this #1 contender’s match, hoping to skyrocket back to the front of the line for the tag team titles.

Meanwhile, the dastardly trio of Kimber LeeSusan, and the Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo have been persistently under the skin of Grace and Jazz, doing anything in their power to stifle their momentum. A couple of weeks ago on IMPACT, Lee and Susan managed to pick up a win against Grace and Jazz, making this rematch seem all but predictable. However, even though Grace and Jazz have yet to receive any success as of yet as a tag team, their unmistakable talent and chemistry are bound to persevere sooner rather than later. It will be interesting to see which of these two teams will get their shot to lead the women’s tag team division.

Willie Mack, Trey Miguel, & Josh Alexander vs. Chris Bey, Ace Austin, & Black Taurus

The momentum clearly favors the heroes in this match on the IMPACT Wrestling card, with Trey Miguel and Josh Alexander winning impressive matches recently. At No Surrender, Alexander won the first ever Triple Threat Revolver match in IMPACT Wrestling history to earn the #1 contender’s spot for the X-Division Championship. In this match, Alexander managed to defeat everyone else involved in the six-man tag team match (excluding Black Taurus, who was a seemingly temporary member of Decay previously). Miguel then went on to win a fatal four way on IMPACT against Mack, Daivari, and Suicide; reminding everyone that he did not come back to IMPACT Wrestling to simply be a player.

Ace Austin has the biggest grudge to hold in this match, as he begrudgingly attempts to prove himself despite winning the Super X Cup just a month ago. He hopes to become the top X-Division competitor in the company again, but must first team with the veteran Black Taurus and the young and hungry Chris Bey. Bey may be the dark horse in this entire situation, as his potential star power truly shines in everything that the “Ultimate Finesser” does. Which warring team will come out on top?

Tables Match
Deaner vs. Jake Something

The family rivalry between Deanerand cousin Jake Something finally comes to a head in a violent and classic match type. After Jake’s momentous win over his cousin at No Surrender a couple of weeks ago, Violent By Design cohort Joe Doering brutally attacked him, powerbombing him through a table. It is appropriate, then, that the table now be symbolic of the potential end to the Deaner feud as part of this IMPACT Wrestling card.

Both men have seen a new spark within them since separating a few months ago. Deaner showed a killer instinct that severely contrasted the happy-go-lucky care-free demeanor that he has held for many years when he attacked his cousin and joined with Eric Young. Since then, he has been on a path of destruction with his new faction, vowing to be “the cure” that the world desperately needs, in whichever diluted way the “World Class Maniac” sees. However, even though Jake has received the majority of the beatings in this feud, his resilience and hunger for vengeance has made him one of the most compelling characters on the IMPACT roster. Now moving forward with his old ring name back, can Jake Something officially put away his cousin-turned-rival in a brutal tables match?
