Preview: WWE NXT UK (11/12/20)

NXT UK Dave Mastiff Trent Seven

It’s an exciting time to be a fan of NXT UK right now, as the brand is still reeling in the success of the recent clash between WALTER and Ilja Dragunov over the NXT UK Championship, while also gearing up for not only the finals of the NXT UK Heritage Cup Tournament, but also another colossal bout in the women’s division.

NXT UK Heritage Cup Tournament – Semifinals: Trent Seven vs. Dave Mastiff

After A-Kid was victorious over Noam Dar in last week’s main event, it cemented his spot in the finals of the inaugural Heritage Cup Tournament, where he’ll meet either Trent Seven or Dave Mastiff to determine the first Heritage Cup Champion. In the quarterfinals, Seven saw off the wildcard entrant Kenny Williams, while Mastiff picked up a win over Joseph Conners, with the pair now set to do battle in the second semifinal. Seven was, of course, one of the pioneers for helping launch NXT UK into what it is today, being one of only a few to cross over from NXT UK to regular NXT. Keep in mind, the Moustache Mountain member is a former NXT Tag Team Champion, even if his reign did only last a matter of weeks (or a matter of days, if we’re going by the taped dates). It’s crazy to think Seven has never held NXT UK gold, however. Considering it’s ‘The Bomber’ standing in his way to prevent that, it could easily be a fact that remains the same for the foreseeable future. Mastiff should never be taken lightly, especially when there’s championship glory in the near distance. All it takes is one Into The Void, and you’re out.

NXT UK Rampage Brown

Rampage Brown Debuts

It was announced two weeks ago that Rampage Brown would be arriving in NXT UK soon, with the Leeds native being shown at the UK Performance Center during last week’s show. Now, the inaugural PROGRESS Wrestling Atlas Champion has been confirmed to be making his NXT UK in-ring debut this week against an, as of writing, undisclosed opponent. Despite not even stepping foot inside an NXT UK ring yet, Brown has to be considered a favourite to be next in line to challenge ‘The Ring General’. He’s one of a select few on the roster who matches the strength of WALTER, and has never been known to back away from a fight against anyone. It’s certainly one way to make a statement right away. Keep in mind, WALTER immediately targeted then-champion Pete Dunne as soon as he came into WWE at the start of 2019. Why wouldn’t Rampage want to follow in those footsteps?

Making History, Again

After coming away victorious over Piper Niven a few weeks ago, it seemed as if Kay Lee Ray would need to find a new challenger for her NXT UK Women’s Championship, which appeared to be determined last week in the form of Jinny. However, Niven would instead lay out ‘The Fashionista’ after her win over the debuting Aleah James, reinstating her intentions – she’s not done with ‘The Queen of Insanity’ quite yet. A brawl backstage was then followed by the announcement that the two will do battle over the Women’s Championship next week in a first for NXT UK, a Falls Count Anywhere Match. The beef between these two dates back years, and at this rate, the NXT UK chapter of that story will be taking up the biggest chunk.
