Rey Mysterio has long been one of the most beloved figures in the WWE. The ultimate underdog has wowed fans on American TV for over two decades and has become one of the most famous luchadores in the United States. It’s not just in the English speaking world where Mysterio has found fame though. In Mexico his prominence on TV in America and ability to succeed outside of the world of Lucha Libre has made him incredibly popular. Because of this, it has now been announced that Rey Mysterio will have a cartoon series made about his character on Cartoon Network Latin America.
The show will tell the story of the iconic Mysterio but will also have a supernatural aspect. The show was announced during Cartoon Network Day at the pixelatl festival. The announcement was made by Jaime Rión who is the director of content for Mexicoand Colombia. During the announcement he stated :
“We are very excited to finally be able to announce this project and eager to share the result with our fans and wrestling fans.
“Working with Rey Mysterio and ¡Viva Calavera! It has been a pleasure and we are sure that we have an incredible story to tell. There are many elements to highlight: Mexico as a central element when creating this project, the level of action, the characters, and the risks we have taken to make this story resonate and connect with many fans around the world. Booyaka!”
As of yet there is no official date for the series to debut but this is another feather in the cap of Rey Mysterio who continues to be one of the most iconic luchadores of all time.
