#AndNEW: Goldberg, Miz and Morrison Win Gold at Super Showdown

Goldberg Wyatt Super Showdown

WWE Super Showdown has officially come and gone as there is now a new pair of tag team champions in the WWE, as well as a brand new Universal Champion in Goldberg, which is sure to completely change the landscape ahead of WrestleMania. First up is the SmackDown Tag Team Championship title change.

Miz and Morrison win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships

The Miz and John Morrison walked out as the new champions by defeating the seven-time champions, The New Day. The team managed to get the win when Miz used the tights of Kofi Kingston to get enough momentum on the roll-up that it became impossible for Kingston to kick out. This is Miz and Morrison’s third championship victory together, the first since WrestleMania 25 in 2009. Their two reigns prior lasted 250 and 113 days, respectively. The reign for The New Day was their second-longest yet, lasting 111 days.

Goldberg wins the Universal Championship

The biggest championship win of the night was in the main event, as Goldberg returned to capture the Universal Championship that he never got a rematch for after losing it at WrestleMania 33 to Brock Lesnar. His opponent? The Universal Champion and one of the most indestructible forces the WWE has ever seen, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. Wyatt has walked through the likes of Seth Rollins, The Miz, Finn Balor, and most recently Daniel Bryan to construct one of the more dominant runs in a long time. The problem for him, however, was that he was simply, “next.”

Next in the form that Goldberg has shown to be a force since returning to WWE in 2016, only totaling two losses in that time against Brock Lesnar and the Undertaker. So how would “The Fiend” fair? Clearly not too great.

The match began with a staredown between the two before Goldberg struck with a vicious spear. “The Fiend” managed to kick out at one.

Wyatt would sit up and lock on the mandible claw, but Goldberg would fight out. Two spears later and “The Fiend” still managed to kick out and lock on the claw again. This time, it looked as though the match would be over. However, the former WCW World Champion managed to get out, hitting another spear and putting “The Fiend” up for a jackhammer to win the match and become the new Universal Champion. The WrestleMania card is now completely different from what anyone could have imagined.
