The first Monday Night Raw of 2020 had it’s ups, downs, but overall was the definition of “fine”. As the WWE builds towards the Royal Rumble, a lot of matches will be to build up the top contenders to make them look strong heading into the huge event. But what we did know heading into the show is that the WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar, along with his advocate Paul Heyman would be in Oklahoma City for his first show since Survivor Series defense against Rey Mysterio. Here are the highlights, including Lesnar’s big announcement.
Brock Lesnar Announces He Will Be Entering The Royal Rumble Match
Brock Lesnar kicked off the first Raw of 2020 and the new decade alongside Paul Heyman. Lesnar, as usual, did zero of the talking while Heyman acknowledged the fact that there is no one capable of standing up to Lesnar and competing for the WWE Championship. So instead, his announcement was going to be monumental and first time ever announcement. And so it was. Lesnar wants to conquer the final thing in his career that he has not. That is entering the Royal Rumble. Yes, the WWE Champion is entering the Royal Rumble match. But that’s not all. Lesnar has won the Royal Rumble match before. What he has not done is go from first to last, which is what he will do this year. Brock Lesnar will enter first in the Royal Rumble and looks to outlast 29 other wrestlers. What a night it will be.
Raw MVP: Big Show
Well. It was the Big Show. For the first time since 2018, Big Show had a match and it was as assistance to Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe. He teamed with them to take on Seth Rollins and AOP in a six-man tag team match. The shock factor was real for once and the crowd agreed. This match was nothing to write home about. Show looked great in his few minutes in the ring. Of course, his speed was not completely there, but in no way to he makes himself look bad.
The match ended when Big Show was attempting a double chokeslam on the AOP and Rollins came from behind with a chair. Joe and Owens managed to help them fight back to the point where Big Show delivered the big right-hand punch to talk out Rollins. Surprises are great, it’s a shame we can’t ay the same for three hours of Raw.
Brock Lesnar is back next week. Three matches are set. And most importantly, we are three weeks out from the Royal Rumble. It’s time for business to pick up on both shows.
