CMLL’s Mr. Niebla Passes Away, Age 46

One of Lucha Libre’s most controversial stars, the masked luchador known as Mr. Niebla, passed away on Monday from complications surrounding a blood infection. The 29-year veteran of Mexican Lucha Libre was only 46 years old.

Mr. Niebla began his career in his native Mexico in 1990, where he debuted as Chamaco Audaz. In 1995, he joined the world’s oldest running promotion, Mexico’s legendary Consejo Mundial De Lucha Libre (CMLL). He still performed with CMLL to this day.

In 2007, he took a year out from CMLL and competed with their arch-rival, AAA Lucha Libre, but was back in CMLL by 2008. His career includes holding the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship for 543-days in 2003-2004, as well as 2x CMLL World Trios Tag Team Champions, CMLL World Tag Team Champion, plus Mexican National Trios Champion.

The past year was a controversial one for the popular star, who battled substance abuse problems that resulted in him being suspended by CMLL for performing under the influence. He was reinstated a few months later with new ultimatums from CMLL.

The entire Last Word on Pro Wrestling staff offer our sincere condolences to Mr. Niebla’s family, friends, peers, and fans.
