Raw Highlights Rundown – Samoa Joe’s Future Takes Turn (12/23/19)

Raw

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! It is time for everyone to settle down and enjoy a nice little holiday break for themselves and what better thing to do than to start your time off by watching Monday Night Raw. Most who may be reading are probably thinking absolutely anything else considering this was not only a taped episode… but it’s also Raw. That’s what I’m here for. So you didn’t have to watch and can see the best highlights Raw had to offer. Without further ado, here are the highlights.

Asuka Wants To Be “Asuka 2 Belts”

Raw

Becky Lynch made her first live appearance in front of the crowd on Raw this week and continued discussing the “debt” she is hoping to collect. “The Man” discussed how she has become the face of the company and those people in the back are trying to protect her. She doesn’t want to be protected. She wants to right her past and beat the only woman who has beaten her clean in the past year, Asuka.

It was one year ago at the Royal Rumble where Asuka defended the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Lynch and made “The Man” tap. So there was Becky, laying down the challenge to defend her Raw Women’s Championship and try to write the wrong she has on her record. Asuka made her way out and let it be known that she is ready to become “Asuka 2 Belts”. The rematch should take place at the Rumble.

Aleister Black And Buddy Murphy Attempt To One-Up Each Other

There is something great about a fun little game of one-upmanship and that is what Aleister Black and Buddy Murphy delivered on Monday night. Aleister Black at a match against a local talent where it took him about a minute to finish in dominant fashion with a Black Mass kick. After the match, Murphy made his way down to the ring to do the same but did it in half the time as a huge running knee and devastating Murphy’s Law gave him a 30-second win. Both men then stared at each other in the ring ahead of their matchup next week and Black nailed Murphy with a Black Mass. If there is a reason to be excited for Raw next week, it’s this match.

Raw MVP: Samoa Joe

Raw

There was a weird, yet noticeable “call-out” by Samoa Joe at the beginning of the show as he told the locker room after Kevin Owens was beaten down that allowing Seth Rollins and the Authors of Pain to run rough shot week in and week out cannot happen. Fast forward to the end of the night. The United States Championship match between Rollins and Rey Mysterio ended in disqualification as the AOP got involved. They dragged the dead carcass of Mysterio up to the stage to put him through the announce table. What happened was that Samoa Joe did not move. He asked them what are they going to do. Joe then threatened them that if he gets up, it was to throw hands and not just get out of the way.
Rollins attempted to calm down Joe before sending AOP on to him. What is most notable here is the fact that Joe seems to be turning into a good time for the first time in his WWE career. Buckle up. And angry Samoa Joe is not one you want to mess with.
Finally, enjoy your holidays before wrestling comes back in full force beginning Friday with SmackDown!
