NXT UK made their debut in Hull this week for a jam-packed episode, that was main evented by a teacher vs student match as Germany and Russia went to war, while we also the return of the reigning PROGRESS Wrestling Unified World Champion, and the debut of an ex-rugby player.

After Ilja Dragunov shockingly sided with Gallus a few weeks ago, he instantly knew that it would cause for some all-out wars against Imperium, particularly from the man who attempted to recruit him to the group, Alexander Wolfe. The Moscow native put in a valiant showing here opposite the former NXT Tag Team Champion, with the crowd firmly behind him as he lay a beating on his larger adversary. However, a distraction at ringside from WALTER, Fabian Aichner, and Marcel Barthel resulted in Wolfe securing the victory following a sitout powerbomb. With the European quartet looking to unleash a four on one assault on Dragunov post-match, Ilja was saved by Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, and Wolfgang as a mass brawl broke out between the two units. As Imperium scarpered, Joe and WALTER got into a bit of a tug of war over the United Kingdom Championship, signifying The Iron God’s intentions in NXT UK moving forward.

The opening match of the evening saw British Strong Style‘s Trent Seven taking on a visiting NXT star in the form of Kona Reeves (believe it or not, he’s still signed). Seven would eventually pick up the three count after downing The Finest with a BirmingHammer after Reeves had somehow kicked out of Trent’s Seven Stars lariat, but the notable point here came after the match was over. As Seven was dishing out high fives to the crowd, he was confronted by a returning Eddie Dennis, who hasn’t competed on NXT UK since March 20th after being sidelined with an injury. The Welshman stared a hole in Trent Seven here, perhaps hinting at a match between them further down the line (TakeOver: Blackpool II is on January 12th after all).
Give Them What They Want

As is normally the case with the inaugural NXT UK Tag Team Champions, Zack Gibson and James Drake blamed everyone they possibly could for them being without the titles. Whether they were putting the blame on general manager Johnny Saint for scheduling them to defend in a Triple Threat Match at TakeOver: Cardiff, or they were claiming Imperium were at fault for them not being in contention for the titles after they interfered in a match between The Grizzled Young Veterans, and Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster two weeks ago, Gibson and Drake were certain they weren’t to blame. After going on a rant that there was no consequence for Imperium causing chaos in that match, Liverpool’s No.1 and Mr Mayhem insisted that Saint should give them a championships match at TakeOver: Blackpool II on January 12th. Make the people happy.

After weeks of anticipation, Ridge Holland (formerly known as Luke Menzies) made his long-awaited NXT UK debut as he battled Oliver Carter, with British wrestling royalty Marty Jones watching on from the front row. Throughout the whole match, the former professional rugby player completely decimated Carter, ragdolling him all over the ring. He very nearly knocked Oliver unconscious with a cobra clutch, but would eventually release the hold for whatever reason to turn him inside out with a Pounce, before he performed a move he calls the Northern Grit to pick up the win in his debut for NXT UK. If this was anything to go by, then Ridge Holland could very well be a future contender for the WWE United Kingdom Championship. Imagine him vs WALTER for the title – two big hosses knocking lumps out of one another.
What’s Next For A-Kid?

Poor Jack Starz. The go-to jobber for NXT UK made his way to the ring once again this week, facing off with newcomer A-Kid in a losing effort to the shock of absolutely no-one, as the Spanish sensation forced Starz to submit by synching in a Rings of Saturn. Later on in the evening, however, Jordan Devlin presented a video package later on in the evening, where he called out the former White Wolf Wrestling (Triple W) Absolute Champion after showing a compilation of his best NXT UK moments during the aforementioned video package. So, it looks like we’ve got both Eddie Dennis vs Trent Seven, and Jordan Devlin vs A-Kid to look forward to in the future. NXT UK really do spoil us sometimes.

In addition to all of that, Jinny called out Piper Niven for The Vixen of Violence believing that she was championship material, Joseph Conners seemed pleased that he interrupted a match between Travis Banks and Ligero last week whereas both The Kiwi Buzzsaw and The Mexican Sensation were angered that Conners had robbed the fans of another epic encounter between the pair, Noam Dar was challenged to a match next week by Ashton Smith, and Nigel McGuinness and Tom Phillips hyped the fact that TakeOver: Blackpool II sold out in two hours.
