ROH Announces “Summer Supercard” in Toronto with NJPW, CMLL & NWA

On Thursday afternoon, Ring of Honor announced its return to Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the Summer Supercard, a joint supershow featuring stars from ROH as well as New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), Mexico’s Consejo Mundial De Lucha Libre (CMLL) and the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). The event will take place on Friday, August 9, 2019, at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (formerly the legendary wrestling venue Maple Leaf Gardens).

ROH Announces Summerslam Week, “Summer Supercard” in Toronto

They become the next promotion to announce a huge event for WWE’s SummerSlam weekend, which will see this year’s SummerSlam take place at Scotiabank Arena (formerly the Air Canada Centre) on Sunday, August 11, and NXT TakeOver: Toronto taking place on Saturday, August 10, at the Scotiabank Arena as well.

No details have been an announced as far as the card, but with SummerSlam weekend slowly becoming a smaller version of WrestleMania week, expect some of the top stars from ROH, NJPW, CMLL and most likely a defence of the “Ten Pounds of Gold”. Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, May 22 for Honor Club members, and then to the general public on Friday, May 24.

Other promotions have already got the jump on SummerSlam week shows in Toronto this year, as Mississauga’s Destiny Wrestling is throwing an event on the same night (Friday April 9) featuring All Elite Wrestling (AEW)‘s SoCal Uncensored (SCU) trio of Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky, as well as IMPACT Wrestling stars Sami Callihan and Josh Alexander. Joey Ryan and Tenille Dashwood (formerly Emma in WWE) are also announced for the Destiny show.

Toronto’s Smash Wrestling has a week-long series of events planned for the same week, starting on Wednesday, August 7 and running through Saturday, August 10. On Wednesday, August 7, it’s Smash vs PROGRESS Wrestling, Thursday, August 8 features a Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw) matinee event Ambition 11 (at 4pm), followed by a stand-alone PROGRESS event at 8pm, and on Friday, August 9, Smash is holding Super Showdown VII, their biggest show of the year. On Saturday, August 10, Smash is partnering with SHIMMER, RISE and Quebec’s Femme Fatales to present The Summit, an all-day women’s wrestling event kicking off at 11am.
