Editor’s Note: We reported on this news due to the fact that Fox Sports Asia, a normally reliable source of sporting news, had reported this news. But since the publication of our article, we have reason to believe that the actual document is indeed a fake. While it’s still very possible that both events could happen, take the report with a grain of salt.
As initially reported by FOX Sports Asia, a leaked document containing details of the upcoming THQ video game release for WWE 2K20, this year’s edition of the popular WWE video game franchise shows that the women’s evolution is still going strong. According to the report, current Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion “The Man” Becky Lynch is set to become the first woman to grace the front cover of the franchise since THQ took over the franchise, and the first time a women’s wrestler has appeared on the cover since 2007’s SmackDown vs Raw, that featured Torrie Wilson on the cover alongside Triple H, Batista, Rey Mysterio, and John Cena.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Becky Lynch expressed her excitement and the importance of potentially being the cover star for this year’s edition. “Oh, I think it’s so important, absolutely,” Lynch said. “I mean, that’s been a goal. So yeah, that’s the next thing. That’s the next step, as well as just maintaining. It’s just a matter of being the top player, the biggest face of this company. To make your name in this business, that’s what I want. That’s what I’m shooting for, and the video game cover would be a nice little stepping stone.”
But Becky Lynch isn’t the only big news for women’s wrestling fans – and pro wrestling fans as a whole – as the leaked document also mentions that Chyna will be making her first appearance back in a WWE video game since WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role, released in late November 2000. It appears that D-Generation X will be heavily featured in the new game (perhaps as a historical story mode), and Chyna will a playable character available as the pre-order download. Chyna, alongside D-X, was inducted into this year’s WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
The document mentioned a release date of October 5, 2019, for the game in-store, with the Becky Lynch cover reveal on July 24, the trailer for Chyna on July 29, and the full D-X news and roster reveal throughout August.
