Douglas James is “Relentless” and Wins the Limitless Tournament

Last year, “Relentless” Douglas James dislocated his hip and wondered whether he would wrestle again. Last night he not only wrestled again but won the inaugural Future Stars of Wrestling – LA LUCHA Limitless Tournament at the FSW Arena. The two night-two city event culminated in a Four Man Elimination match in the Finals.

James beat Lucas Riley on night one in Los Angeles and Eli Everfly last night to get into the Eliminator Final. He tweaked his right side after a physical match with The Fly in round two and left the ring gingerly. The injury didn’t help as the odds were against him already as FSW Champ “The Ultimate Finesser” Chris Bey earned his way in with victories over Jake Atlas and Adam Brooks, and No Limits Titleholder Damian Drake and Top Contender Matt Vandagriff also were able to survive and advance. Drake made his second appearance with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA) on Friday in Tijuana, Mexico so he would be forced to do triple duty last night if he was going to win.

Chris Bey was pre-occupied with Killer Kross repeatedly calling him out during his second round match and the Elimination Final. It would be difficult not to be, but it wouldn’t stop the FSW Champ from eliminating “The Flip Artist” Matt Vandagriff first, but it may have been what led to him getting rolled up by Damian Drake and eliminated which stunned the FSW Arena Crowd.

That left Drake and James for the Limitless Trophy. DJ was smart during the Final by protecting his leg and keeping his distance so he had enough in reserve for Drake. Both guys went back and forth until James caught Drake in a guillotine that “The New Age Daredevil” wouldn’t get out of. It was a great moment for an athlete who has fought back from so much over the last year. Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins surprised everyone when he came out to congratulate and challenge the winner. Now TJP will face DJ at the FSW 10th Anniversary Event June 22 in the Fight Capital at Sam’s Town Live.
