The hits (and throwbacks) for Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3 this WrestleMania weekend continues, as Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) and Joey Janela revealed another participant in the now two-day affair on Tuesday night. The Tuesday announcement was that WWE Hall of Famers The Rock N’ Roll Express, the legendary and hugely influential tag team of Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton, were scheduled to compete on Night Two of the third Spring Break, The Greatest Clusterf*ck.

Originally put together in 1983 by Jerry Lawler in Memphis with Continental Wrestling Association (CWA) as counterparts to the Fabulous Ones (Steve Keirn & Stan Lane), it wasn’t long before the Rock N’ Roll Express became one of the most popular tag teams of the 1980s and one of the most influential tag teams of all time. With their rock and roll bad boy imagery and their high flying maneuvres, they revolutionized what athleticism and psychology could do in the tag team division.
During the 1980s, they became 3x Mid South Tag Team Champions and 4x NWA World Tag Team Champions, in classic feuds with the likes of The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton), Los Guerreros (Hector & Chavo Guerrero), The Four Horsemen (Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard/Ole Anderson), The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael PS Hayes & Terry Gordy/Buddy Roberts/Jimmy Garvin) and more. It didn’t take long for other promotions to create imitations, such as the AWA (and then the WWF) creating The Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) as their own version. They continue to wrestle to this day, and in the 1990s became 10x Smokey Mountain Wrestling (SMW) Tag Team Champions, as well as capturing three more NWA World Tag Team titles. They were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in the 2017 Class. So far, early 2000’s indie pioneer Slim J, 90s WWF Superstar Mantaur and hardcore icon Necro Butcher have also been announced for the Spring Break weekend.
