Looks like Roman Reigns isn’t the only wrestler currently battling cancer. Tonight Michinoku Pro star Fujita “Jr.” Hayato returned to the ring where he announced he was battling cancer himself after a tumor on his spine turned out to be malignant.

An amateur wrestler since he was 8 years old, Fujita was trained by his father – who was also a pro wrestler – and MMA/UFC star Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, who recently passed away this September from his own battles with stomach cancer. In 2004, he was signed to Michinoku Pro, the company owned by The Great Susake and Jinsei Shinzaki (aka WWE Superstar Hakushi), with Shinzaki completing his training.
Fujita would go on to be a Michinoku Pro star for the next 13 years, as a 2x MPW Tohoku Junior Heavyweight Champion, as well as tag team champion with Ikuto Hidaka in The Dangan Yankees. He also made numerous appearances for ZERO1 and New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he competed in the 2010 and 2011 NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournaments, as well as the 2009 Super J Cup and 2010 and 2011 Super Junior Tag Leagues.
It’s been a rough past year for Fujita, who has been out of action since April of 2017 due to a knee injury. We wish Fujita all the best in a speedy recovery.
