As advertised for this round of WWE SmackDown results, the “Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu will kick off SmackDown in Jacksonville, ahead of his World Heavyweight Title Match against Roman Reigns, tomorrow night at Backlash. Fatu had some fighting words, remembering how all of his family saw Roman Reigns as the future. That said, he’s not fighting Roman for the title at Backlash; he’s there to take it, plain and simple.

The Usos would talk to him one last time, saying they’re not here to convince him to back out, but warn him. Jey Uso said he experienced it first-hand, saying Fatu will be broken down in every way imaginable. And when that happens, he and his family will have no choice but to acknowledge the OTC.

Fatu refused all these warnings, saying Jey never beat Roman, and there’s no way he’s losing because this isn’t for a main event, this is for his family, and they’ll see him walk out of Tampa as World Heavyweight Champion, ready to put it all on the line. Fatu left and gave a stern threat that if The Usos interfere, he’ll burn the whole family tree down.

  • We see Nick Aldis address the Gunther Issue, saying he’ll get to the bottom of it tonight.
  • Matt Cardona and Ricky Saints got into it, with the former saying he’ll see him tonight after referring to him as “Rookie Saints.”
  • Royce Keys hypes up Jacob Fatu as Solo Sikoa tells him there’s “always room in the family.”

Women’s U.S. Title Match

#AndNEW Women’s U.S. Champion Tiffany Stratton defends against the representative of the woman she beat for the championship, Kiana James. It was extremely close, with James giving to her Stratton all match long. Unfortunately, Giulia may have cost Kiana the title. Giulia would argue with the referee as Kiana James had Tiffany in a School Girl that could’ve gone all the way to a four-count.

Stratton would blast Giulia off the ropes, hit the Front Slam Senton, followed up by the Prettiest Moonsault Ever to secure her first successful title defense.

  • Backstage, we see Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair, and Alexa Bliss try to co-exist ahead of their 6-Woman Tag Match against Fatal Influence, as it seems like Ripley and Flair couldn’t see eye-to-eye, and Bliss implores them to get it together.

Damian Priest vs. Talla Tonga

The “Archer of Infamy” makes it clear that he’s here for revenge for WWE Tag Team Title partner, R-Truth, as he takes on Talla Tonga one-on-one. It was an uphill battle for Priest, literally and figuratively, as the much larger Talla dominated him. Priest has never faced such a person, but he managed to come back, even chopping down the big man, and giving one to Solo Sikoa on the outside for good measure.

Damian Priest would hit a Axe Handle on Talla Tonga, almost pinning him for the win. With the straps down, Priest was going for the Razor’s Edge, that is, until Tama Tonga would run to the ring and distract the referee while Sikoa would assault Priest. Talla hit a Discus Clothesline, but Damian would kick out.

R-Truth would run for the save, only for MFT to beat him down, allowing Talla to hit the Chokeslam for the win. Post-match, MFT would circle the ring like dogs, that is, until Royce Keys would run them off, preventing further damage.

  • We see Danhausen with a “Backlashausen” sheet, encouraging people to sign up, as Kit Wilson and The Miz dressed him down for not getting a partner yet.

Paul Heyman Arrives on SmackDown

If this round of WWE SmackDown results couldn’t get any better, or worse depending on who you ask, the “Oracle” Paul Heyman would make his way into the arena and straight to the office of Nick Aldis. Paul Heyman negotiated a deal that would land SmackDown the “Ring General,” and it did not go down well with Cody Rhodes, as they had a war of words and a match in Clash in Italy was made official.

Matt Cardona vs. Ricky Saints

After an impressive debut, Ricky Saints takes on Matt Cardona. As his motto would tell you, “Always Ready,” and that’s exactly what Matt Cardona was this Friday night. Unfortunately, despite his cockiness costing him in multiple moments, Ricky Saints would finally land his first win since coming to SmackDown, as he hit an impressive Roshambo on Cardona for the pin after an evenly-contested match-up.

6-Woman Tag Match

Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, and Rhea Ripley go to war against Fatal Influence, as the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Paige and Brie Bella scout their future challengers at ringside. Before the match, Paige and Brie would warn everyone, including Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez on WWE Raw, that they welcome the challenge, regardless of brand.

Fatal Influence would throw their hats into the hunt, saying that taking over SmackDown means being champions. The Irresistible Forces would chime in as well, saying everyone can get in the back of the line, as they want a rematch. Nia Jax and Lash Legend would assault the champions as WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley makes her way to the ring for a tag match, staring Lash Legend down.

Surprisingly enough, Bliss, Flair and Ripley co-existed so well. At the end of the match, Bliss was on the verge of tagging in a red-hot Ripley, after she was isolated by Fatal Influence. Unfortunately, a returning Jade Cargill would pull Ripley off the apron, leading to Bliss not making the tag and Jacy Jayne nailing her with the Rolling Encore Discus Elbow to hand her team the win.

Post-match, Cargill, B-FAB and Michin would beat down Bliss and Flair before Rhea could make the save. In the end, Cargill would kick Ripley in the head as a statement that she’s coming for her WWE Women’s Title.

Royce Keys vs. Tama Tonga

Royce Keys looks to take care of business as he takes on Solo Sikoa’s right-hand man, Tama Tonga. Tama tried his absolute best, even eating a British Bulldog-style Powerslam from Royce Keys. Still, in the end, without the assistance of MFT, as Sikoa told Talla not to interfere and lend him a hand to fend for himself, Tonga couldn’t get the job done, as Royce Keys delivered The Ultimate Spinebuster, TUSP, to nab another win.

Backstage, Shinsuke Nakamura once again tried to plead with Tama, only to be confronted by Talla Tonga to stay away from Tama.

RIP Gingy

To end the WWE SmackDown results for May 8, 2026, Trick Williams will honor the memory of Gingy the Gingerbread Man. With an open casket and a choir behind him, Trick dropped a few barres for his friend Gingy, as well as a montage of the life and times of the fallen Gingerbread Man. After the video package commemorating his memory, Trick would ask for a moment of silence.

Sami Zayn would immediately interrupt and state how ridiculous all of this is, even pointing out the abundant amount of roses and the “off-key” singing of the choir. Zayn said he’s not getting baited, since he has too much respect for himself, SmackDown, and the WWE Universe.

Zayn said Trick got to this head, but that furthers his anger and his drive to take the U.S. Title back, calling the title “his life,” as he paid his respects and then assaulted Trick. Gingy would rise from the dead as Zayn hoisted up the title, and it turned out to be Lil Yachty, who ended the night by battering Zayn with a huge candy cane, allowing Trick Williams to hit the Trick Shot.

WWE SmackDown Results – Post-Show Review (5/8/26):

Similar to any “Go-Home” show, this week’s SmackDown was a vehicle to further feuds, and that’s what it did for Jacob Fatu vs. Roman Reigns. Fatu has been on absolute fire on the mic and in the ring as of late. Every time he spoke and did anything, he further proved why he’s already on his way to becoming a main-eventer, as well as a future World Champion.

While it’s assumed Reigns will retain tomorrow night, the way Fatu moves and speaks convinces everyone that he could be an actual threat to prematurely end Roman’s reign.

What isn’t premature is the rise of the recent NXT call-ups and debuts, as we saw Fatal Influence, Ricky Saints and Royce Keys make their mark tonight with a couple of wins. Were the matches remarkable? Not even at all. That said, they were solid enough and are a good way to reinforce their standing on the main roster.

Kiana James and Tiffany Stratton for the U.S. Women’s Title was a solid but not a blow-away opener, as well as Talla Tonga against Damian Priest. Danhausen, in his backstage segments, has been absolute gold, and Kit Wilson and The Miz are the perfect characters to further this insanity, with Danhausen trying to scientifically engineer “another Danhausen,” which he seemingly succeeded in doing, and even dropping an S-bomb on air.

Danhausen may not be main-eventing a WrestleMania anytime soon, but he sure has exceeded expectations. The Gunther and Cody Rhodes segment is just the first of many. We think things will heat up in the following weeks, as it was a good start to get their feud underway officially, and Paul Heyman, albeit briefly, exchanging words with Cody is always something special.

In a bold move, WWE would put on the “Funeral of the Gingerbread Man” last, which left us really confused, and Sami Zayn even pointed that out in his promo. But it was clear that it was a showcase of Trick Williams’ ability to make anything entertaining. Trick Williams prepared some rhymes to honor Gingy, backed by a full-on choir, and while it isn’t for everybody, it was extremely entertaining.

Trick Williams is really on his way to taking over, and things like these might not be serious, but they do showcase Trick’s ability to put on his Lemon Pepper Steppers and get you invested. We know it’s such an unorthodox way to get a feud over, but this segment, no matter how silly, really elevated this feud because Zayn is an absolute amazing heel. This soft double turn is a great decision, and Lil Yachty being invested is such a great thing, as not many celebrities would stick through the program this long.

Overall, it was a pretty solid show, better than the last two weeks, as SmackDown has footing, regardless of whether it’s still in the infancy stages.

That’s all for REAL-TIME WWE SmackDown results, as well as post-show review, for the May 8, 2026, episode as they happened in the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
