Who Has the Best Shot at the Women’s Tag Titles at WrestleMania 42?

Every avalanche begins with the movement of a single snowflake. This women’s tag division in WWE represents that metaphor in a nutshell, but the one bright side to all of this is that WWE has never had this many prestigious and credible women’s tag teams in all of history.

Regardless of the lack of long-term booking in this match, these teams are more than capable of producing a spectacular match. Here is an objectively subjective ranking of everyone’s chances of winning the Women’s Tag Title Match at WrestleMania 42.

Betting Favorite: Bayley & Lyra Valkyria

Bayley and Lyra Valkyria have the best storyline reason to win this tag title match. Last year at WrestleMania 41, BayLyra was supposed to battle Judgment Day’s Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez for the tag titles after winning a gauntlet match.

However, Becky Lynch attacked Bayley backstage and replaced Bayley to win the tag titles with Lyra and eventually betrayed her to win the IC Title. Ever since missing ‘Mania, Bayley has been on a downward spiral, and Lyra has been taming her psychological meltdown.

Ever since losing that IC Title match to Becky Lynch in a triple threat with Lyra at Evolution, Bayley has had the huggable babyface persona on her right shoulder and the grotesque “Ding Dong! Hello!” heel persona on her left shoulder.

Lyra has been slapping her into reality to bring out her best self in both her matches and her character development. After also missing SummerSlam and Survivor Series, BayLyra must redeem themselves by winning the tag titles at WrestleMania, which they should have won last year.

Runner-Up: Bella Twins

Speaking of BayLyra, they were eliminated by the Bella Twins at the Royal Rumble. Ever since then, there has been beef between those teams, as they are both vying for tag gold.

Unlike BayLyra, who has the best redemption storyline to win this title match at WrestleMania 42, the Bella Twins merely have the casual fan appeal on their side. They are not only Hall of Famers but also the longest tenured women’s team in history. Yet, they have never won the tag titles since the titles were not introduced until after they retired.

WWE cannot have all those years of Twin Magic go to waste. They deserve their flowers and are thereby likely winners of this tag title match. The only hindrance would be the sudden Nikki Bella injury that occurred a few weeks ago on SmackDown.

She is currently rehabbing in an attempt to make it back in time for the title match. If she cannot do that, it is rumored that Kabuki Warriors will replace her and her sister. That would be unfortunate since Brie Bella made an epic return at the Rumble for this moment.

Dark Horse: Nia Jax & Lash Legend

Nia Jax & Lash Legend are the current champions and have not successfully defended their titles via pinfall or submission since winning them from Rhiyo in February. All of their title defenses have ended in a disqualification finish due to outside interference from BayLyra, Bella Twins, and CharLexa.

This means that they have not yet solidified their reign. If they lost their tag titles right now, their reign would look eminently embarrassing, especially since they are supposed to be indomitable heels disrupting the system.

Furthermore, they are the only heels in this match. Usually, the formula for title matches with this dynamic historically leads to the heel champs retaining the heat. For example, at ‘Mania 24, the heel champ, Randy Orton, retained the WWE Title against babyface challengers in John Cena and Triple H.

Recently, at ‘Mania 39, the heel champ, Gunther, retained the IC Title against babyface challengers in Drew McIntyre and Sheamus. Since Jax and Legend are battling three babyface teams, they could win for the heat.

No Chance In Hell: Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss

Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss already won the tag titles in 2025, so they need this victory the least. On top of that, the fans are already discerning how stale the tag team has become recently. This tag team either needs to turn heel to spice things up or break up to do a singles feud in the summer that benefits both of them.

It is not particularly fun to see Bliss carrying Charlotte in both matches and segments to somehow get the crowd on Charlotte’s side after her egregious program with Tiffany Stratton at last year’s Mania.

WWE frequently books in circuitous ways to protect Charlotte, but the babyface Charlotte Flair experiment is futile. After being over-pushed and overexposed for an entire decade with 14 meaningless world title reigns in between intermittent vacations, it is improbable that WWE will ever garner sympathy for Charlotte or even repair the relationship she has with the pro wrestling fanbase.

At some point, this company has to embrace the heat that comes with the Charlotte Flair character, and it must start at ‘Mania 42.
