NXT Stand and Deliver was a big night for everyone in NXT as both the men and women have new locker room leaders. The NXT Gold is now in the hands of Lola Vice and Tony D’Angelo.
This title change made history in NXT. Now, Tony D’Angelo is the first ever NXT Grand Slam Champion. He has held the heritage cup, North American Championship, NXT Tag Team Championship, and now the NXT Championship. D’Angelo officially etched himself into history of the company and among some of the greatest who has stepped in a WWE NXT ring.

Why This is Important
Tony D’Angelo creating history is important for various reasons. There are the obvious reasons, like boosting his career. Winning the NXT Championship means he finally reached the top of the mountain in NXT, and now a lot more challenges will be facing him.
Now no matter what, Tony D’Angelo’s name will be brought up when talking about the history of NXT. There is no way to erase him from it. The first ever NXT Grand Slam Champion.
This is important because of how many former NXT stars couldn’t accomplish this. The stars that you may think of when you first hear NXT who are extremely successful on the main roster includes Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Charlotte Flair, and more; they haven’t been able to achieve that accomplishment.
Even though the North American Championship is fairly new, we have seen stars return to NXT and win championships. We’ve seen Dolph Ziggler return to NXT and win the NXT Championship. It would’ve been possible for someone else to achieve this accomplishment first, but it was something Tony D’Angelo did.
He now has a stacked resume for whenever the main roster starts calling.
What’s Next for Tony D’Angelo?
He did it. Tony D’Angelo is the NXT Champion, but what now? With that gold around his waist he is not only the biggest threat in NXT, but also the largest target. What will happen when he walks to the ring for the first time with the championship?
Joe Hendry is owed a rematch for the championship, but we don’t know when or if that will take place yet. Who else do you want to see step up to challenge for the NXT Championship now that it is held by D’Angelo?
Even though he just won the championship, D’Angelo has been in NXT for a while and nearly accomplished everything that he could in NXT. The next stop for D’Angelo seems to be the main roster, but that is after what will be hopefully a long championship run. The main roster holds nearly an entirely new locker room, meaning new opponents. Whatever may be next for D’Angelo, it seems like he’s heading in the right direction.
