Why It Doesn’t Matter Who Wins Between AJ Lee and Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 42

AJ Lee and Becky Lynch made their title match official for WrestleMania 42 on Raw this week. Ever since WrestlePalooza in September, it was obvious to even casual fans that this feud would likely come to an end at WrestleMania in a high-stakes title match. No matter what happens in the result for this contest, the fans will get a treat because both women are GOATs in their own right. Sports Illustrated is saying it, so it must be true.

Here’s why it does not matter who wins between AJ Lee and Becky Lynch at ‘Mania 42.

AJ Lee Just Won The IC Title And Would Elevate The Roster As Champion

AJ Lee just won the title from Becky Lynch at Elimination Chamber and only had one title defense against Bayley on Raw. It would be way too soon for her to lose the title when she should be solidifying her reign.

Lee has been a big part of WWE’s success in 2025-2026, and her role as champ would significantly elevate the roster, especially rising stars like Roxanne Perez. She has the experience and intestinal fortitude to run this division unless she decides to go on another hiatus after Mania in her current part-time schedule.

Becky Lynch Never Got The Upper Hand On AJ Lee In This Entire Feud

If she does take that hiatus, it must be noted that Becky Lynch never defeated AJ Lee in this entire feud and should actually have a chance to redeem herself. AJ Lee made her tap out at Wrestlepalooza in their mixed tag match with CM Punk and Seth Rollins, at Survivor Series in their War Games Match with their respective teams, and at Elimination Chamber in their first one-on-one title bout.

Becky already won the title twice and truly has nothing to lose, but a victory over AJ Lee is something she has yet to accomplish.

Nattie & Maxxine Dupri Should Have Been Included In This Match

While both women have very good reasons to win this title match, AJ Lee and Becky Lynch graduated from the mid-card a long time ago. They are main event players who should be battling for the Women’s World Title currently being contested between Stephanie Vaquer and Liv Morgan at ‘Mania 42.

To get those two juggernauts out of the mid-card, it would have been wise for WWE to include actual mid-carders, Nattie and Maxxine Dupri, in this match to make it a fatal four-way, especially since they were part of the story.

Maxxine Dupri was feuding with Becky Lynch over the IC Title for months. She won the title thanks to an assist from AJ Lee, who is currently encouraging her to keep fighting. And, she got screwed out of the title picture by the woman who trained her, Nattie.

Nattie eliminated Becky Lynch from the Rumble and even defeated Dupri multiple times to earn a title opportunity. It would have been more worthwhile for her to win the title here to solidify her new MMA gimmick, allowing Lee and Lynch to flourish in the main event scene.
