SmackDown’s main event has been shaken to its very core. After an intriguing 55-day reign, Drew McIntyre dropped the WWE Championship back to Cody Rhodes. The American Nightmare will now battle Randy Orton, the winner of the Men’s Elimination Chamber, for the top prize at The Show of Shows.
Over the course of his reign, the Scottish Warrior interacted with a diverse range of Superstars on SmackDown. Although many fans would have wanted him to walk into Mania as the WWE Champion, McIntyre can still find his way to a decent spot on the Mania card
On that note, let’s look at 3 directions for Drew McIntyre after losing the WWE Title.
#3. Drew McIntyre Would Want Revenge on Jacob Fatu
Cody Rhodes’ WWE Championship title win wasn’t entirely clean. The story would have been different if Drew McIntyre had assaulted Rhodes with the steel chair. However, Jacob Fatu snatched the chair away, allowing the American Nightmare to capitalize and reclaim his belt.
The Scottish Warrior and the Samoan Werewolf have been at war for months. McIntyre has stuck his nose in Fatu’s business incessantly, but Nick Aldis, the SmackDown General Manager, has kept Fatu in check. Both men are on an inevitable collision course, and McIntyre vs. Fatu could be on the cards for Mania.
Although both men would have loved to compete for the WWE Title, there is enough ill will in the equation to justify a full-fledged war between the two SmackDown stars.
#2. The Scottish Warrior Could Force Nick Aldis to Lace Up His Boots Again
It was Cody Rhodes who stole the WWE Title away from him, and Jacob Fatu helped him accomplish that goal. However, Nick Aldis was responsible for putting McIntyre in that position. The SmackDown General Manager was fed up with McIntyre’s antics and constant meddling.
When the Scottish Warrior interfered in the Men’s Chamber and attacked Rhodes, a furious Aldis booked McIntyre in a WWE Title match against Rhodes. Although authority figures have seldom stepped into the ring in recent years, Aldis’ case is quite different.
TNA fans knew Aldis as Magnus, who had a successful and celebrated career in the promotion. McIntyre could assault his boss, prompting the former TNA star to lace up his boots and step in the ring again.
#1. McIntyre Could Weasel His Way into the WWE Title Match
It’s been difficult to follow the WWE Championship scene in recent weeks, but WWE has officially confirmed Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton as the main event of WrestleMania 42: Night One. Nonetheless, there may be another twist late in the tale.
Drew McIntyre must be convinced that he is at the epicenter of a grand conspiracy. After being robbed of the top prize, McIntyre’s frustration could grow, leading him to more desperate attempts. Eventually, the Scottish Warrior could maneuver his way into the WWE Title match, making it a Triple Threat.
