On September 12, 2025, WWE presented Worlds Collide: Las Vegas, the second Worlds Collide PLE since WWE bought AAA. The main event was El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship. While Vikingo walked in as champion, Mysterio ended up winning the belt, ending Vikingo’s 104 day reign.
Since then, he only has defended it once in a win against Dragon Lee at Heroes Inmortales on October 25. His lack of defenses has majorly frustrated Vikingo. On the February 21, 2026 episode of AAA, the two met for a contract signing for the championship for Rey de Reyes on March 14. They both presented stipulations, which were agreed upon.
If Mysterio wins, Vikingo will never challenge for the belt if he is champion. But if Vikingo wins, Mysterio will be done with AAA. Will Mysterio retain, or will he be banished from AAA forever?

A Mysterio Win Could Mean More Opportunities for Vikingo
If Mysterio retains the AAA Mega Championship at Rey de Reyes, Vikingo will never get another chance at the championship while Mysterio is champion. That may seem like a bad thing, but there’s some upside if he does lose.
It was reported last month that he is the only AAA wrestler that is actually signed to WWE. If he fails to regain the title, there’s a chance he could go to NXT or the main roster permanently. He wasn’t in the Royal Rumble this year, while other AAA wrestlers were. Perhaps that’s because WWE has some major plans in store for him.
He’s never had a match on Raw, SmackDown, or NXT, and there’s a case for him to move to all three brands. Mysterio winning may seem like a handicap for him, but that might get him to his next move in his WWE career.
Losing Gives Him Sole Focus on the IC Title and Judgment Day
Even though Mysterio is currently the AAA Mega Champion, there are still a lot of things he has to worry about in WWE. He is also the Intercontinental Champion, which he won at Survivor Series: WarGames from John Cena. He hasn’t defended the title once due to injury. But now that he’s back, challengers will be lining up with WrestleMania: Vegas seven weeks away.
There’s also the ever-present problems of the Judgment Day. One of the biggest problems is the status of Finn Balor in the group. Whatever happens on Saturday at Elimination Chamber could decide his future. Juggling all that while being AAA Mega Champion is a lot to handle. Putting the belt back on Vikingo will give him full-time dedication to his WWE duties. Banishing him from AAA may seem harsh, but there are a lot of things he needs to sort out back in WWE.

What Will Happen to Mysterio at Rey de Reyes?
The AAA Mega Championship match at Rey de Reyes on March 14 might be one of the most important matches in Mysterio’s career. Either he retains the championship and gets rid of his Vikingo problem, or he loses and never steps foot in AAA again. Those are tremendous stakes, and it’s clear he’s feeling a lot of pressure.
If he wins, that might give Vikingo more opportunities on the main roster or NXT. As the only AAA wrestler signed to WWE, a loss could allow him to appear on those brands full-time. But a retention for him would actually be good for Mysterio. There’s a whole lot of chaos going on with the Intercontinental Championship and Judgment Day. Banning him from AAA gives him time to deal with those problems. Whatever happens to Mysterio, it’s clear he’ll have a busy couple of weeks heading into WrestleMania.
