The final stop of the Road to Destruction tour saw the stars of NJPW heat up Kitaga’s Arena for night seven of NJPW Battle Line Hokkaido. The card was headlined by the junior heavyweights, with both titles in the division at stake.
Here’s what went down in the show that also previewed what’s to come for Destruction this weekend:
NJPW Battle Line Hokkaido Results – Night 7:
- Main event: IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship – El Desperado (c) def. YOH
- 7th match: IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship – SHO & DOUKI (c) def. Kosei Fujita & Robbie Eagles
- 6th match: Ren Narita, Sanada, & Yujiro Takahashi def. Zack Sabre Jr., Ryohei Oiwa, Hartley Jackson via disqualification
- 5th match: Gabe Kidd, David Finlay, & Taiji Ishimori def. Shingo Takagi, Yota Tsuji, & Hiromu Takahashi
- 4th match: Tomohiro Ishii, Taichi, & Taka Michinoku def. OSKAR, Yuto-Ice, & Gedo
- 3rd match: Boltin Oleg, Shota Umino, & Yuya Uemura def. Don Fale, EVIL, & Dick Togo
- 2nd match: Togi Makabe, Toru Yano, & Tomoaki Honma def. Tiger Mask, Ryusuke Taguchi, & Shoma Kato
- 1st match: Hiroshi Tanahashi def. Master Wato
- Kick-off match: Zane Jay & Masatora Yasuda def. Tatsuya Matsumoto & Katsuya Murashima
El Desperado Retains For V8
El Desperado is still the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight champion after defeating YOH in the main event for his eighth successful defense. The challenger gave him all he could handle, but Desperado escaped a Direct Drive attempt and managed to hit his big moves to pull through once again.
The victory is a huge confidence booster for the champion, as he had lost all three of their previous singles matches. As for YOH, he will have to go back to the drawing board after another terrific performance goes for naught, as he fails to capture singles glory.
SHO & DOUKI Escape From The Backdoor To Retain
The House of Torture still has the only titles they have in their possession, as SHO and DOUKI eeked out a win over The Ichiban Sweet Boys, Robbie Eagles, and Kosei Fujita of TMDK. DOUKI used a good ol’ tights pull over Fujita to claim a second successful defense for their team.
Fujita was furious with the result and went after the champions with a steel chair, with Eagles gingerly tailing him to the back. This victory is an excellent sign for the House, as two of their members challenge for singles titles at Destruction, with Don Fale facing Boltin Oleg for the NEVER Openweight Championship and Ren Narita going after Zack Sabre Jr.’s World Heavyweight gold.
Destruction will be on Sunday, September 28, at the Kobe World Memorial Hall and will be livestreamed on NJPW World.
