AEW Dynamite Preview (8/20/25) – Forbidden Door Go-Home Show

Ahead of another big UK-based PPV, AEW debuts Dynamite in another part of Britain this Wednesday at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro Arena. Three announced matches, plus another contest teased on Collision, and two talking point segments ahead of Forbidden Door offer plenty to speculate on.

The last big notable wrestling event at the Hydro was WWE’s Clash at the Castle. That left a bitter taste in some British fans’ mouths for reasons beyond the high price of tickets. It’s fitting when rumors persist about WWE’s attempts to restrict AEW and counterprogramming with Clash in Paris that AEW gets can make another positive impression in the Battle for Britain.

Heavy-hitters and big names across the card will be seeking to make their final statements and book their places ahead of Sunday’s multi-promotional PPV. Also, it’s likely also we’ll get some unannounced matches and moments could totally reek of awesomeness.

AEW Dynamite Matches Announced:

  • Forbidden Door World Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament Finals: FTR W/ Big Stoke vs. Brodido
  • Death Riders vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi and JetSpeed
  • Athena and Mercedes Mone vs. “Timeless” Toni Storm and Alex Windsor

Match Speculation:

  • Lance Archer vs. a member of Sky Flight

Segments Announced

  • Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley face-to-face
  • We’ll hear from AEW World Champion, Hangman Adam Page

Two Big Tag Matches

The Forbidden Door World Tag Team Eliminator Tournament has been a fun, story-driven contest with overlapping plot threads and intriguing possibilities. Teaming Brody King with Bandido has seen two of 2025’s most impressive single stars further endear audiences towards them.

This unit could pose an interesting dynamic threat to The Hurt Syndicate. The first time the champions could face a team that could match their strength and athleticism. However, to discount FTR’s slyness, experience, and expertise would be a critical error.

Narratively, also, facing the tag champions could be a clinic in psychology and chopping down big men. Something this match could preview. A Pinnacle reunion has been teased, but so was the FTR vs. Young Bucks final.

In the women’s division, platonic partners “Timeless” Toni Storm and Alex Windsor play the underdogs to the TBS Champion and ROH Forever Women’s Champions. Not long ago, Athena and Mercedes Mone were rivals. The match left room for a sequel.

Athena won’t find a minion in the CEO or someone willing to take orders or give up the lead. Yet, the prospect of revenge on the only woman to beat her since her WWE exit and another title shot might be enough to galvanize the pairing. Expect further story beats to be set amongst some kick-ass action.

AEW World Champion Speaks

Hangman Adam Page goaded Maxwell Jacob Friedman into executing his title shot against the AEW World Champion at Forbidden Door. It appears that MJF is now without allies, but also without remorse and never with a sense of conscience.

“The Main Antagonist” made this clear last week by beating Page down in the car park that he will do what he must do. I’ve written a deep dive on the history of Hangman Adam Page and MJF here, and how both men have mirrored each other from day one.

Page was right to highlight Seabiscuit’s wins in the end, although Page also knows a lame horse is destined to go to the glue factory. What’s MJF going to do in response? Will Page even make it to the stage?

The Hangman has shown intelligence and has not forgotten himself, unlike his last post-chase world title run. This is a battle of minds as much as it is words.
