Why Je’Von Evans Should Be The One To Beat Oba Femi

At NXT New Year’s Evil 2025, Oba Femi captured the NXT Championship. Femi beat Eddy Thorpe and previous champion Trick Williams in a triple threat match. Since then, he has gone on to have incredible matches, beating his opponents with ease.

On the July 22, 2025 episode of NXT, he successfully defended his title against Yoshiki Inamura and Josh Briggs in a triple-threat match. After, the cameras turned to Je’Von Evans in the locker room. The Undertaker appeared next to him, asking if he was still trying to figure out what was next. Before Evans could respond, the Hall of Famer said that he should continue to go after the top guy, with that being Femi.

This is certainly a tease for a future match between the two. Given Evans’ career so far and the timing of NXT Heatwave, having him dethrone Femi would be a good move for everyone.

Je’Von Evans Deserves a Championship

Since making his NXT television debut early last year, Evans has turned heads and surprised everyone watching him. At 21 years old, he has impressed fans and management, excelling at every challenge thrown his way. He has wrestled for many different titles while getting experience from veterans like Ethan Page, Randy Orton, and Shawn Spears.

Femi has even challenged Oba Femi for the NXT Championship at Stand & Deliver. There’s no doubt he has one of the most impressive resumes in NXT history for a PC talent. But a glaring omission should be talked about – he hasn’t held championship gold yet.

Management clearly is waiting for the right time to pull the trigger. They’re building Femi up as an unstoppable monster. Having Evans, a young wrestler who is successful and talented, beat him would make him an even bigger star that the company fully trusts to carry NXT.

Heatwave is Close to an Apparent WWE Draft

NXT Heatwave and Clash in Paris are both taking place on the last two Sundays in August. That may seem insignificant, but a lot of chatter has been going around about the Raw and SmackDown season premieres happening in September. With that, it’s been rumored that the WWE Draft will be held in conjunction with those premieres.

NXT has been a central part of the draft, with many wrestlers getting called up. Femi has done a lot during his time in NXT and has been deserving of a call-up for months now. Dropping the NXT Championship to Evans will signify a shift in the brand if he does get called up.

Many wrestlers have been deserving of a call-up, so if a lot changes at Heatwave, it’s safe to say that NXT will say goodbye to many wrestlers if there is indeed a draft in early September.

WWE is Setting the Stage for an Epic Clash For Oba Femi

After watching last Tuesday’s NXT, many people would probably take away two things from the ending. One thing is that Femi is unstoppable and very hard to beat. The other thing is that WWE is pushing Evans very hard, with the Undertaker giving him a glowing endorsement.

However, Evans isn’t getting pushed because the company wants another guy to get beaten down by Femi. He’s getting pushed because he is legitimately talented and can go in the ring with anyone. At 21 years of age, he has already accomplished so much, but a championship title has eluded him so far.

They want to make his first championship win feel special, which is the right thing to do since he definitely deserves it. Je’Von Evans beating Oba Femi for the NXT Championship would prove that he belongs in the main event scene and that he deserves to be a champion.
