The Women’s Intercontinental Championship match at Money in the Bank was important for both Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria. If Valkyria won, then Lynch wouldn’t challenge for the title again. But if Lynch won, Valkyria would have to raise her hand and recognize her as champion.
That is what happened at Halloween Havoc in 2023, when Valkyria took the NXT Championship off of Lynch. In the end, Lynch won, and Valkyria lifted her hand. However, a controversial ending and some humiliation cast a dark cloud over the result.
Valkyria ended up beating up Lynch in frustration after the match was over. It’s clear that a rubber match is on the horizon. With multiple events coming up in the next two months, there are reasons why it could happen at all of them.
No matter when it happens, the third Lynch vs. Valkyria match will be exciting to watch.
Night of Champions is Right Around the Corner
In just two weeks, WWE will travel to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for Night of Champions. At the event, all the championship titles in WWE will be defended. That includes the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
Lynch will obviously be celebrating at this week’s Monday Night Raw, gloating about her victory. Valkyria will probably be close by, waiting for the right time to attack Lynch for her behavior on Saturday. Given the short time span between Money in the Bank and Night of Champions, it would make sense if Valkyria wants her rematch at the closest PLE possible date-wise.
She was not happy about her loss or Lynch’s antics after the match. If she hears what the commentators said about the ending, that definitely gives her justification to get her title back. Night of Champions makes sense for the PLE where the rubber match is held.
Evolution is the Perfect PLE for Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria
WWE Evolution made history as the first all-female PLE in 2018, showcasing that the women of WWE are very athletic and talented. On July 13, the second Evolution event will be held at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Given that it’s five weeks away, the build will start to take place sooner rather than later.
There’s still a lot of hatred between those two women, so the rubber match at Evolution would be a good decision. With this being the first Evolution in seven years, WWE will want to fill the card with matches that could be very memorable.
Given how intense this feud has been, it’s only fitting that a potential conclusion should happen at such a high-profile event. This feud has really elevated Valkyria as a wrestler, so having the championship match at an all-female PLE will definitely showcase her and Lynch’s abilities.
SummerSlam’s Two-Night Format is Enticing
This year’s SummerSlam will be different than any other year for a huge reason. It will be held over two nights on August 2 and 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Instead of the typical seven or eight-match cards, the scheduling allows for 14 or 15 matches, which means that more championships will be defended.
With definite surprises coming for Evolution, and with a WWE Draft supposedly happening soon, someone else could challenge Valkyria for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. If she ends up winning, Lynch could re-ignite the feud in time for the largest SummerSlam in WWE history. Having the decisive match happen there could immortalize the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, no matter who wins the title.
It is clear that WWE is gearing up for a historic weekend. Having an intense matchup be part of that weekend will make it more special for everyone.
Any PLE Will Benefit from Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria
Before returning at WrestleMania 41, Lynch took a nearly year-long hiatus from WWE. Valkyria was the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Champion, crowned on the January 13, 2025 episode of Monday Night Raw. Both women came into the battle with a lot to prove.
Lynch wanted to prove that she can shake the ring rust off. Valkyria wanted to defend her championship to the best of her ability. It’s safe to say they’ve definitely met their goals.
But, after what happened on Saturday, their feud isn’t over. Lynch might think she’s done, but Valkyria is furious over the humiliation she suffered.
With three PLEs happening in the next two months, any of them could be the site of the third Lynch vs. Valkyria match for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. With tensions between them at an all-time high, their next match will definitely be exciting for everyone.
