One night prior to AEW Dynasty, AEW Collision will be stacked with plenty of appetizers and a blow-off match to a long-running feud. Additional signs of AEW’s creative turnaround are that each weekly show includes an exciting mix of beginnings, mid-point story beats, and conclusions that make each week’s episode a must-watch. Wrestlers and characters across the card feel dynamic, with characters emerging weekly.
Three preview matches for Dynasty include the final thirds of their respective trios team squaring off against each other. The Bastard PAC takes on Cash Wheeler. A rare singles outing for Wheeler, the other half of FTR, will be aiming to prove a point with this match to Dax Harwood and fans about his capabilities.
Elsewhere, both Kenny Omega’s International Championship opponents get opportunities to shine. Mike Bailey in-ring against Dralistico while Ricochet tests his verbal capabilities on commentary.
That’s without mentioning one of the most exciting returns to AEW programming. Athena will be in action!
Collision, give us all your aggravation!
AEW Collision Matches Announced:
- PAC vs. Cash Wheeler
- Mike Bailey vs. Dralistco- Ricochet joins commentary
- Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher vs. Tomhiro Ishii and Powerhouse Hobbs
- Mercedes Mone and Harley Cameron vs. Athena and Julia Hart
- CRU vs. Top Flight
CRU vs Top Flight
The feud and match between Top Flight and former stablemates Lio Rush and Action Andretti somewhat reflects AEW’s changing treatment of Collision. The split between the two teams was spurred, yet has gone unreferenced in commentary and the storytelling, as part of The Death Riders’ mission to force the locker room into change.
An elongated, somewhat plodding build for months reflected some fans’ perceptions of AEW’s attitude towards Collision. Booked to keep wheel-spinning.
Yet, the sounds of cheers for Top Flight and boos as CRU choked Dante and Darius Martin out with gold chains at Slam Dunk Sunday Collision is a reminder that things are in flux. Collision is changing.
In-ring in their last few outings, Top Flight have been kinetic and fiery. CRU, in their aesthetic and characterisation, are finding their way to a new groove. This match has stakes.
Neither team really can lose. Top Flight have been perpetual losers for the past several months while the CRU watched and laughed from the sidelines. Yet, CRU’s last match was a loss to Private Party.
Both need the win. So how far is each team willing to push to get it?
Owen Hart Tournament Tag Team Preview
The women’s tag team match offers many treats besides a preview of the 2025 Owen Hart Women’s Tournament. More than a preview of a dream clash between Athena and Mercedes Mone. The uniqueness of odd-couple tag partnerships will impact the wrestling and the space between moves.
Seeing Mone team with recent rival Harley Cameron means that, at the very least, Puppet Mone will be ringside! What happens if Mini Mone and Athena come face to face? Could Harleygram also make an appearance?
Coincidentally, seeing Julia Hart team with Athena is a dream combination I didn’t know that I needed. Both have characters and aesthetics that blend and contrast nicely.
This is without considering the action itself. Mone is in form. Cameron is on the rise. Athena is in her prime, and Hart is in the process of standing out again.
With the women’s division beginning to break away from its spotlight problem and the Owen about to unfold, women stealing the headlines on AEW is going to become more the norm than the exception.
