3 Key Storylines Heading Into WWE WrestleMania 41

3 Key Storylines Heading Into WWE WrestleMania 41

Las Vegas. A city where success and failure are only separated by the roll of a dice. WrestleMania 41 takes up its residency in Sin City for two nights only on April 19th and 20th, but that’s more than enough time for the entire face of the WWE Universe to change.

On a match card where generational talents will meet and long-standing rivalries will be renewed, it pays to look closer at those key matches and what their outcome could mean for the year ahead. WrestleMania is not just where the year comes to a head; it’s the point at which all the new stories begin.

CM Punk To Call In His Favor at WrestleMania 41?

The Money in the Bank briefcases may have already been cashed in, but that doesn’t mean WrestleMania 41 won’t yield a similar plot twist. CM Punk is still owed a favor by Paul Heyman in exchange for joining Roman Reigns’ WarGames team at Survivor Series last November.

Besides emerging victorious, Punk underlined that favor by saving Reigns from serious injury during the match. Positioned on a table, Punk pulled Reigns to safety before Bronson Reed could deliver a devastating Tsunami from the top of the cage.

Initially, many fans and insiders speculated that Punk would use that favor to force himself into one of the two main events at WrestleMania. However, with both world title matches now locked in, Punk may need to look further into the future for opportunities worthy of that favor.

Perhaps Punk will re-secure the services of Heyman, ending his tenure with the Tribal Chief. With his injury troubles behind him, Heyman’s guidance could see Punk begin to challenge for world championships again. As this tantalizing Vegas triple threat looms, Punk may be in the mood to gamble.

Could that favor present itself as a stipulation? A winner takes all that secures a #1 contender’s spot for the world title and the services of Paul Heyman? Every scenario is an exciting prospect: Punk reuniting with Heyman, Reigns back in the world title picture, or the Visionary stealing the Wiseman from his biggest rival.

Will Bianca Belair’s WrestleMania Streak Continue?

The EST knows what it takes to win at WrestleMania. Stretching back to 2021, Bianca Belair has won four consecutive matches on the grandest stage of them all, chalking up victories over Damage CTRL, Asuka, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks. But her escalating feud with current Women’s World Champion IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley could end up being her toughest WrestleMania task yet.

Ripley and SKY are in peak condition and have big points to prove and, unusually for Belair, she is the underdog heading into this match. It’s been almost two years since Belair last held singles gold. In that time, SKY has won two world championships while Ripley has picked up three.

Next week’s world title match between SKY and Ripley – with Belair officiating as special guest referee – will supposedly confirm who the EST will face at WrestleMania. However, it seems unlikely that the feud will continue without either Sky or Ripley. The triple threat at WrestleMania looks the most likely and, of course, most exciting outcome.

Arguably, the most interesting dimension to this bout is Belair herself. The fresh rivalry between her tag team partners Jade Cargill and Naomi continues to be a distraction for Belair and could play a decisive factor in her character development throughout 2025.

Reeling from Naomi’s revelation and desperate to reclaim the top spot in the women’s division, Belair’s 2025 has been turbulent and eye-opening in all the worst ways. It might just be enough to do the unthinkable and turn her heel.

Immortality Beckons for John Cena

Beyond shock value, John Cena’s heel turn has to mean something. It has to serve his legacy as he prepares to bid farewell to professional wrestling. The unprecedented 17th world title, in many fans’ eyes, would justify the demolition of his famously virtuous persona.

Cena currently stands alongside Ric Flair for the most world title reigns with sixteen. Overcoming Cody Rhodes in Las Vegas and claiming the top spot outright would solidify Cena as the greatest of all time.

Cena has turned to the dark side and continues to condemn and ridicule the WWE fans whenever he gets the opportunity. It seems unthinkable that WWE will waste this monumental heel turn by not giving Cena his 17th title in his last ever WrestleMania match.

Looking ahead, putting the belt on Cena also opens the possibilities for so many huge matches before the end of the year. An unhinged Randy Orton? The winner of Punk vs Reigns vs Rollins? A rematch for Cody?

Cena winning at WrestleMania 41 isn’t about just him; it’s a chance to elevate those who are following in his footsteps.
