Tag Team Match: Bayley & Giulia vs. Roxanne Perez & Cora Jade

The January 28 edition of NXT kicked off with a strong tag team match which saw the team of Bayley & Giulia go up against Roxanne Perez & Cora Jade. The two teams’ feud began last week, and both teams were determined to end it today. After back-and-forth action, Bayley and Giulia pick up the win. NXT Women’s Champion Giulia should not get too comfortable yet though, as Perez and Jade are sure not to be done with her yet.

Grayson Waller Effect featuring NXT Champion Oba Femi

A-Town Down Under’s Grayson Waller and Austin Theory are here and up to their usual antics. Regardless, the NXT Champion Oba Femi is welcomed, and he is quite the presence. Theory and Waller are being mighty disrespectful, belittling Femi’s accomplishments. Sure enough, Femi is willing to take on either of them at Vengeance Day on February 15.

NXT General Manager Ava comes out to remind Femi (and everyone else) that she makes the matches. Former NXT Champion Trick Williams can be seen pacing backstage as he watches this unfold before he takes to the ring. Femi and Williams have a brief staredown before the latter disperses of Waller and Theory – but Femi remains the last one standing after a pop-up powerbomb. Williams needs to hope for a quick recovery from that, as he has a match against Wes Lee later on tonight.

Izzi Dame Interview

Izzi Dame is interviewed ringside and she is asked about her relationship with The D’Angelo Family, especially Tony D’Angelo. She claims that she was just simply returning the favor, as Shawn Spears had been stalking her. Ridge Holland interjects, and he is questioning that entire story. The Family’s Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo comes to the rescue, with Holland and Lorenzo exchanging words.

Trick Williams vs. Wes Lee

Williams is less than 100% but he is insisting that he is fit to be in action, and Lee is not going to hesitate to pick at the former champion. Try as he might, Williams is feeling the effects of that powerbomb, and Lee is dominating as a result. The match descends into chaos when Lee’s boys get involved, leading to Williams snapping and using a chair. This disqualification means Lee picks up the victory.

Ava Confirms Oba Femi’s Vengeance Day Opponent

Ava was watching the chaos backstage and, soon enough, Femi walked in demanding to know who his Vengeance Day opponent is. Ava confirms that Femi’s opponent will be Waller… and Theory. Femi will defend the gold in a triple-threat match.

Ava Confirms Major NXT Tag Team Match for Next Week

Coming off of the ad break, Ava is searching for Williams. When she finds Williams, she confirms that he will get to tag with Femi against A-Town Down Under next week.

Fallon Henley (c) vs. Shotzi [NXT Women’s North American Championship]

Shotzi was flanked by Gigi Dolin and Tatum Paxley while Fallon Henley had Jacy Jayne and Jazmyn Nyx in her corner. Those on the outside soon got into a brawl that took them all the way to the back but the action continued. Once Henley targeted Shotzi’s leg, it was a major turning point and ultimately led to Henley successfully retaining the gold. As Henley was celebrating, Stephanie Vaquer came out, and it was confirmed that the match is official for Vengeance Day.

Karmen Petrovic Thanks Kelani Jordan

Backstage, Karmen Petrovic thanked Kelani Jordan for her assistance in the match last week. Jordan clarifies that she did that simply because she does not like Jaida Parker – not because of Petrovic. Jordan then sternly warns Petrovic that Ashante ‘Thee’ Adonis will soon leave her.

Ava Confirms Giulia’s Vengeance Day Opponent

In a backstage interview, Ava is ready to confirm Giulia’s opponent for Vengeance Day. Just as she is about to, Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade interrupt. Ava proceeds to confirm that Giulia will also be in a triple-threat match, as she defends against Bayley and Perez. Whilst Perez is happy with that, Jade is not and storms off.

Ethan Page vs. Cedric Alexander

Ethan Page and Cedric Alexander had their match, and the two were looking to punish each other. The match goes on for a while but Page ultimately picks up the victory. Following the match, Page wants to attack Alexander once more but Je’Von Evans comes to the rescue, despite still not being cleared.

Fatal Influence Backstage

Fatal Influence is backstage, with Henley upset that she is never allowed to just celebrate and have a moment to enjoy her championship. They then reveal that – should Ava permit – Stephanie Vaquer will need to face Jacy Jayne next week first.

Bianca Belair & Naomi (c) vs. Jakara Jackson & Lash Legend [WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship]

As expected, this is the main event. Bianca Belair and Naomi are having quite the week but, en-route to the Royal Rumble, they need to find a way to hold onto the gold against the determined Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend. This was a competitive tag team match, and the first face-off between Belair and Legend received an audible pop. At the end of it, Belair and Naomi do enough to retain the gold but there will surely be a time when we see the Meta-Four ladies holding the gold.
