The Royal Rumble is an institution within WWE. Starting in 1988 it has included one of WWE’s marquee gimmick matches and is considered on par with WrestleMania. The hype surrounding the event has always been at a fever pitch as fans sell out arenas to watch the show.
In recent years, the company has been attaching more importance to the show, moving it to larger stadiums across the United States. This has been a great move for WWE and shows how they are treating the second biggest PLE of the year.
Indianapolis won the bidding war this year and is hosting the big event, but who will get the honor going forward? So many cities would be great for hosting one of WWE’s premium events. Let’s brainstorm some possible options.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (American Family Stadium)
Rumors have been running that Milwaukee has been in the running for a big show. With the location of next year up in the air, it would be great to see Milwaukee get the Royal Rumble. Even if it doesn’t, the city should still be at the top of the list.
The Mid-West has always been a hotspot for wrestling. The history goes back to the AWA days and, while other cities have gotten the love, Milwaukee has fallen to the wayside. Sure, there have been the odd PLEs to make their way to the city but none on the grand scale of say a Royal Rumble.
It would be awesome for WWE to pull this off and create a new legacy for wrestling in Brew Town. Plus, packing close to 50,000 screaming fans into the ballpark would be a huge selling point.
Hamilton, Ontario (First Ontario Centre)
WWE has always been one to drum up history when it suits them. Their ability to tug at that nostalgic heartstring is a talent and one they could use to sell the Royal Rumble going back to where it all began.
The 1988 Royal Rumble came to us live from Hamilton, Ontario. Not the most suspecting sight but one that provided a great venue and a show that broke attendance records in the area. It was humble beginnings for a show that would become as great as the Royal Rumble has.
WWE loves to go back, and maybe the time is here for it to go back to where the first Royal Rumble was held. Canadian fans would be over the moon for the Royal Rumble to return and it would give WWE another chance to break their attendance record. Something that would look great on the marquee.
Seattle, Washington (T-Mobile Park)
The Royal Rumble has developed a pattern, as of late, of being held in baseball stadiums. It’s a great idea, as those aren’t in use in January/February, and they are capable of housing the types of numbers that WWE lives for. Frankly, those stadiums check a lot of boxes for World Wrestling Entertainment.
Seattle has already been home to a major PLE. WrestleMania 19 was one of the best of all time, boasting a lineup of future Hall of Famers. It was a great show and one that WWE could lean on when thinking about heading back there again.
The Northwest is temperate and would not have weather interfering with a winter PLE. Plus, there is a retractable and the ability to cram in as many as 50,000 fans. It would be the perfect way to bring WWE back to the Northwest.
Arlington, Texas (Globe Life Field)
Bringing shows to new stadiums is something that WWE loves to do. They want to be at the forefront of stadium records. To give them another notch in the belt and bragging rights is a feat they would love to have at every stadium, and there just so happens to be one they haven’t done anything with yet.
Globe Life Field was the new hot attraction only a few years ago. It held the COVID World Series and has been the jewel of everyone in Texas’ eye. It is a beautiful stadium and one that would look great hosting a Royal Rumble.
The stadium could easily hold close to 50, 000 people. It could have the roof open for great visuals and would be more than capable of hosting two nights of an event, which is the rumored direction that the Royal Rumble is headed. There are so many positives to WWE taking the Royal Rumble to Arlington that it would be silly not to consider it.
Atlanta, Georgia (Mercedes-Benz Stadium)
Atlanta has long been a hotbed for wrestling activity. For years NWA/WCW had the centerpieces of their organizations in the city and, when they went to the wayside, WWE took up the cause. There have been a plethora of major shows that have taken place in Atlanta but it has been nearly 15 years since a Royal Rumble has gone to Atlanta.
WWE needs to bring the Royal Rumble back to Atlanta. The last time they did, Edge was the huge surprise return that blew the roof off. There is no doubt that WWE would love to replicate a moment like this. It would be a great way to bring their January showcase back to the Big Peach.
Also, the Mercedes-Benz stadium is massive. When WWE was there for WrestleMania 27, they were able to boast an attendance over the 70,000 mark. There is no reason to believe that WWE would not be able to reach such numbers again.
