A tale two years in the making has finally concluded with a storybook ending. The son of the “American Dream” Cody Rhodes is now the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion after defeating the ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns. Here’s a brief recap of Rhodes’ journey to winning the big one at WWE WrestleMania 40 Sunday.
A Long-Winding Rhode
Cody Rhodes came back to WWE two years ago at WWE WrestleMania 38 with one thing in mind; honor his father by winning the WWE Championship, a crowned that eluded Dusty Rhodes. It was by no means an easy way to the top. Cody had to battle injuries and a ton of hardships along the way.
When the light at the end of the tunnel was so close last year at WrestleMania 39, The Bloodline dashed his dreams of becoming the top champion in WWE.
Fast forward to this year’s Royal Rumble PLE, Cody had to outlast an army of competitors, last eliminating CM Punk to book his ticket to the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’ for the second time in a row.

With the deck stacked firmly against him in a ‘Bloodline Rules’ Match, Cody Rhodes overcame huge odds to finally vanquish his bitter rival Roman Reigns to capture his first World Championship in the promotion. For a couple of moments, it seemed like Rhodes was gonna fall short once again, with the constant interference of The Bloodline.
What the faction didn’t realize is there were a couple of legends looking over Rhodes to ensure he finished his story. Icons like Jey Uso, Seth Rollins, John Cena, and The Undertaker would fend off the wolves, leaving Cody to end this thing once and for all.

Fortunately, the ‘American Nightmare’ found it in himself to vanquish the beast to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WWE WrestleMania 40 night two.
After the match, his peers and his family joined him to share this crowning achievement, a beautiful moment no doubt. To quote Michael Cole, “We love professional wrestling.”
