Jade Cargill has reigned supreme over the TBS Championship division for well over 365 days now, celebrating her one-year reign as the title’s holder just a few weeks ago and even breaking Hikaru Shida’s record of longest-reigning champion of any division in AEW history. What’s more impressive about Cargill’s run as the TBS Champion is that she remains undefeated.
While this monster-winning streak is nothing short of impressive someone will inevitably break it, and that’s exactly what we want to talk about. We will discuss potential challengers to Jade Cargill’s reign as TBS Champion, plus, the competitor that will break her streak in the process. Here are a few competitors that we had in mind that may have a very real shot at overthrowing Jade Cargill atop the AEW Women’s Division Mountain.
5 Challengers to End the Jade Cargill TBS Title and Win Streak
Saraya
Saraya is one of the biggest acquisitions AEW’s women’s division has ever had. She has name value, experience, and many fans still clamoring for the UK-born star to reach the summit of professional wrestling once again. Saraya cemented her place in the division by defeating one of its biggest stars in the form of Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. back at Full Gear. While she will seemingly be wrapped up in a program with the next pick on this list, if AEW wants to pull the trigger and strap a rocket onto her, then defeating Jade Cargill may be the way to do it.
Ruby Soho
On paper, this makes sense since Ruby Soho was the last competitor standing in the way of Cargill becoming the first-ever TBS Champion. Furthermore, this gives Soho the push she has sorely needed since experiencing a monstrous reception upon her debut at the 2021 edition of All Out. “The Runaway” has so much potential to become the top star in the TBS Championship division, and yet she’s still in limbo after returning from injury.
AEW can rectify this by building up Ruby Soho as a credible threat to Jade Cargill, capping it off with a monumental victory over the undefeated champion at a big event like Double or Nothing, or even All Out if management chooses the slow-burn route.
Red Velvet
Red Velvet overthrowing Jade Cargill makes the most sense out of all these picks, as they have a rich shared history. Velvet was involved in Jade’s first match, ultimately kicking off this historic winning streak and eventual TBS title win. They’re already teasing a potential match between the two in recent weeks. However, we feel that much like Ruby Soho, the promotion needs to build Velvet up for her to be a credible threat.
While it makes the most storyline sense and it could catapult another competitor to the upper echelon of the women’s division, AEW should not rush the Red Velvet situation since it has the potential to be a monumental “feel good” moment for one of AEW’s most intriguing prospects.
Kris Statlander
Pound for pound, there are very few competitors that can stand toe to toe size- and power-wise to Jade Cargill; Kris Statlander is certainly one of them. Before her unfortunate injury, Statlander was in a position to be a top contender for Jade Cargill’s TBS Championship. If AEW wants to bring back Kris in a grandiose way this 2023, they can revisit the postponed storyline and let “The Galaxy’s Greatest Alien” not only face her but ultimately end her streak and take the belt.
Willow Nightingale
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention Willow Nightingale in a conversation involving challengers to Jade’s TBS title. Nightingale has been absolutely amazing since becoming #AllElite. She has exhibited star potential and the in-ring tools, showcasing her strength, agility, and quickness that will inevitably thrust her into one of AEW’s biggest wrestlers.
If AEW wants to expedite the process and inject a new credible competitor into the mix, then the company should look Willow Nightingale’s way and have her be the one to finally conquer Jade Cargill.
