CM Punk Return AEW World Champion
August 10, 2022 By  AEW

CM Punk Returns to AEW

CM Punk made his return to AEW at the Quake at the Lake edition of Dynamite. He returned following the interim AEW World Championship match between Chris Jericho and interim champion Jon Moxley.

CM Punk Makes AEW Return at Quake at the Lake

Following Moxley’s retention of the Interim AEW World Championship, the Jericho Appreciation Society hit the ring to attack Moxley. Punk cleared the ring of the Jericho Appreciation Society as the Minneapolis crowd welcomed him back with open arms.

Punk became the AEW World Champion at Double or Nothing when he defeated Hangman Adam Page. The following week on Rampage he announced an injury was going to keep him sidelined for an undisclosed amount of time. Instead of vacating the title, an interim championship was created with a tournament to crown the interim champ created. Moxley defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door to win the interim belt.

With CM Punk back the championships can now be unified. Moxley did not show CM Punk any respect even though it was Punk that made the save for Moxley tonight. No unification match has been announced as of this writing. It is fair to assume we could see this match take place at All Out as it is AEW’s next pay-per-view and is in the hometown of CM Punk.
