CZW Coming Home To Philadelphia!

Combat Zone Wrestling was born in Philadelphia in 1998.  Over the years, the company has done shows in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and most recently, Maryland.  There have been other shows scattered in there as well, but the company has really made its name in those areas.

CZW Returning Home to Philadelphia

It has however been a while since CZW returned to the City of Brotherly Love. In fact, the last time Philadelphia hosted a CZW event was Cage of Death XX in December of 2018. All of that is about to change on August 20th, 2022 at 3:00 EST when they present “CZW Live at the Oval” in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum steps.

“Coming back to Philly is important”, says CZW owner DJ Hyde. “There are some of the best wrestling fans here, but also the toughest.  If you want to make it in this business, you need to go through the Philly crowd.  We now take a step towards history.  Working with the Oval XP and doing a show in this location is something I have wanted to do for years.”

There will be a showcase of talent this weekend in an event that is sure to get fans talking. The card is jam-packed with great matches top to bottom and there is a beer garden and food trucks. If that isn’t enough of a reason to come out, the show is absolutely free. What else could a wrestling fan ask for?

Fans aren’t the only ones excited about a return to Philadelphia.  The CZW roster is also looking forward to coming home and showing everyone what they are bringing to the table. Much of the roster is actually from Philadelphia, so this show means that much more to them. Nate Wallace and Dave McCall (The Rep) are Philadelphia natives and will be defending their home turf against the CMD boys from Camden. “It’s been too long and it’s time to show Philly what they’ve been missing”, says Wallace. “Being able to wrestle in Philadelphia is super important for a couple of different reasons”, McCall adds. “One, home is where the heart is. Two, we are in front of the Rocky steps. I’m definitely excited to whoop CMD’s a** in front of that Rocky statue if I’m being honest with you. We were trained in Philly, we had our first match in Philly and if I’m being honest, I’m just excited to rumble at home!”

Wrestling at the Oval means a bit more than just wrestling in front of great fans in his home town to Matt Quay, who has already embraced the true nature of the Combat Zone since joining the company earlier this year. “CZW coming back to Philly means so much.  In front of the art museum and the Rocky steps for God’s sake!” Quay remarks. “To me that’s the perfect location for a CZW show.  CZW embodies grit, hard work and persistence.  That sounds a lot like Rocky so I feel very excited baby!”

Wrestler and CZW Dojo trainer Gabby Gilbert is also looking forward to the big show. “Being part of the CZW family, I’m so excited to see them back in Philly”, says Gilbert. “CZW has done so many things in wrestling before anyone else.  Having a wrestling show at the oval is historic.  As a homegrown Philly girl myself, I can’t believe this is really happening and I am so excited to be a part of it.  I’m bringing everything I got to show Philly and the wrestling world that CZW is the place to be.  I just hope I make the late Jimmy Rave proud.”

This is a continuation of the big things that CZW has been doing all year long and the future is bright for the company. “I am excited right now”, explained Hyde. “We are rebuilding, but I believe in this team.  Doing new things and trying something different is the way we will go”.

Keep up with all things CZW over on their website
