New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Dominion event is one of the biggest events in the NJPW calendar. The 2022 edition promised to be an exciting show with Forbidden Door on the horizon and Jay White back in the title picture. NJPW capitalized on this excitement by having four championships change hands on the show. Let’s take a look at the title switches
Title Changes at Dominion 2022
United Empire Regain Tag Gold
Bad Luck Fale and Chase Owens dropped the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships on their first attempted defense. The United Empire team of Jeff Cobb and Great O-Khan regained the titles amidst their involvement in a feud with AEW’s FTR.
Karl Anderson Wins NEVER Championship
Tama Tonga also failed to defend his title at the first hurdle. The NEVER Openweight Championship was on the line in a grudge match between Tama Tonga and recent NJPW returnee Karl Anderson, it was Anderson who came away with the win and the title to win his first singles title in New Japan.
Will Ospreay Wins IWGP US Championship
Will Ospreay is a champion once again as he captured the vacant IWGP US title. Ospreay has almost pulled off a clean sweep of the titles in NJPW following this title win. Juice Robinson was stripped of the US title meaning the scheduled three-way became a singles match between Ospreay and SANADA, which Ospreay won.
Jay White Wins IWGP Heavyweight Championship
After COVID-19 derailed his career Jay White is back at the pinnacle of New Japan Pro Wrestling. The Bullet Club leader immediately re-upped his feud with ace Kazuchika Okada and has gotten one over on the CHAOS member once again. What this result means for AEW and Forbidden Door remains to be seen as Hangman Page made it known he wanted Okada and the title.
The lineup for the G1 Climax 32 was also announced at Dominion.
