It is Friday already and the WWE‘s Friday Night SmackDown returns not even a week removed from a pretty well-received WrestleMania 38. As is typically the case post-WrestleMania, the WWE is building tonight’s SmackDown as the beginning of a “new era” though, as we all know, it’s really not. Indeed, each of SmackDown’s champions retained – all three members of The Bloodline held onto their titles despite fierce competition and Charlotte Flair overcame Ronda Rousey, though via questionable tactics. With that being said, let’s dive into the preview and see what’s on offer for tonight’s show
Roman Reigns to Make Announcement
As mentioned in our opening, Roman Reigns overcame Brock Lesnar to not only retain his WWE Universal Championship (a reign which is quickly approaching an unprecedented main roster, “modern era” feat of 600 days) but to also acquire the more historic WWE Championship. Tonight, he is expected to announce his intentions for the two titles. Will they be unified? Will one be retired? We don’t know. However, what we do know is that Roman’s next opponent and feud is set to be revealed tonight. Whereas it is likely too soon to be expecting the long-rumored feud with cousin Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (next WrestleMania, anyone?), we should get some indication towards who Roman’s next rivalry will be with now that “The Beast” Brock Lesnar appears to be conquered. Though not announced for the show, newly #AllWWE superstar Cody Rhodes will be wrestling a dark match, so maybe he can make an appearance. Maybe. Anyway, Roman speaks tonight.
Not Announced But Expected Tonight
– It has been rumored for a while that Lacey Evans is due to make a return any day now. She and Charlotte Flair may have unfinished business.
– Ding dong, hello! Could we see Bayley return? This one appears to be less expected, but we need more Bayley on our screens after she’s been out on the shelf for the past year and, quite criminally, having missed the last two WrestleMania events. With tonight’s SmackDown being billed as the beginning of a “new era”, a Bayley appearance is what we demand to kick off this supposed new era.
