Gresham won the ROH World Title in the main event of Final Battle. This makes Gresham the final ROH World Champion of this generation of Ring of Honor. With the entire locker room coming to ringside to see the match conclusion, Gresham hit the octopus lock for the win. Gresham won the original ROH Championship that has been held by greats such as Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe, Nigel McGuiness, and many others.
Jonathan Gresham Captures ROH World Title At Final Battle
Gresham was originally scheduled to face Bandido for the ROH World Title. Due to Bandido contracting COVID-19, he was pulled from the card. Jay Lethal was announced as the replacement for Bandido in the main event. During Hour One of Final Battle, it was announced that the original ROH title would be up for grabs in the main event. The two Foundation stablemates left it all in the ring.
This is Gresham’s first reign as ROH World Champion. He is also a former ROH Tag Champion and Pure Champion. Gresham was instrumental in revamping the Pure division in 2020. He won the Pure tournament and held the Pure Title for over 300 days before losing the title to Josh Woods. After losing the Pure Title, Gresham made it clear he wanted to pursue the World Championship.
