AEW Utilizes Many Local Stars in St. Louis AEW Dark Taping

AEW DARK spoilers

Friday night’s episode of AEW Rampage came live from the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri and as per usual, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) taped several matches for future episodes of AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation in the process. The St. Louis area was one of the most important territories for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) during their heyday from the 1940s to the 1980s (under Sam Muchnik) and the area continues to be a strong region for indie wrestling with the likes of St. Louis Anarchy, Dynamo Pro, and Glory Pro Wrestling. This past Friday’s event featured several stars from the area in matches for the tapings, including former IWTV Independent Wrestling Champion WARHORSE. Here’s a look at who was used (note: while the article does contain spoilers of the names utilized by AEW, we will refrain posting from match results).

Heidi Howitzer vs. Riho

Heidi Howitzer has been making a name for herself the past few years, but the past year she’s exploded since joining the Warriors of the Wasteland, ROH star Max The Impaler and Leon Ravage. Howitzer made her AEW debut on Friday night in a singles match against former AEW Women’s Champion Riho. This past weekend, Howitzer and Ravage – as Wasteland War Party won the FEST Wrestling Tag Team titles.

Kody Lane & Luke Langley vs. Sammy Guevara & Jake Hager

Kody Lane is a Texas indie wrestler who has been a regular with Glory Pro since 2018. From 2016 to 2018, he was the tag team partner with ACH in Different Strokes (and then Team Acadamia). His tag team partner on Friday, Luke Langley, is from Oklahoma but has appeared for St. Louis Anarchy, as well as home state promotions like Wrestling For A Cause (WFC), where he’s the reigning WFC Heavyweight Champion.

Tootie Lynn vs. Nyla Rose

Tootie Lynn has had a great 2021, emerging as a bright young star in the revamped NWA, after being a Southern indie star the past few years. She actually debuted for AEW earlier this week on AEW Dark: Elevation in a loss to Riho, but she returned again on Friday to face Nyla Rose. Tootie Lynn – who also competes as Seishin – is a Glory Pro regular, as well as competing for Southern indies like ACTION Wrestling, St. Louis Anarchy, WrestleMax STL, and more.

WARHORSE vs. Andrade El Idolo

WARHORSE is probably the most recognizable name and his appearance back in AEW now gives meaning behind his quiet removal from the Hybrid Wrestling show in Pennsylvania on Friday night. WARHORSE has a huge cult following on the U.S. indie scene, and the groundswell of support lead to him challenging Cody Rhodes for the TNT Championship back in 2020. WARHORSE made his AEW return on Friday night, where he faced Andrade El Idolo in singles competition.

Davey Vega, Camaro Jackson & Darian Bengston vs. Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Orange Cassidy & Wheeler Yuta)

Davey Vega is a 2x Glory Pro United Glory Tag Team Champion with Mat Fitchett in Besties in the World and has long been considered one of the top stars in the U.S. indies Midwest and Southern regions. While he’s on hiatus from Besties in the World, Vega appeared in a 6-man tag team, where he was paired with two other indie wrestlers. Camaro Jackson, from St. Louis, is also best known for another tag team, Alpha Omega with Kenny Alfonso, but on Friday the reigning Dynamo Pro D-1 Champion joined the trio for the match against Best Friends. Darian Bengston has made numerous appearances on AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation since his debut this past June, and he returns again in this 6-man tag team match.

Miranda Gordy vs. Tay Conti

Like her last name suggests, Miranda Gordy is a second-generation wrestler and the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer and legendary Freebird Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy. She competes in the Southern indies and made her own NWA debut at NWA EmPOWERRR (also in St. Louis), and continues to build her own legacy in the Texas and Southern indies.

Moonshine Mantell vs. Wardlow

Moonshine Mantell is another Southern star, working the likes of Reality of Wrestling (ROW), St. Louis Anarchy, New Texas Pro, and many others. He made his own AEW debut this past July, and returned once again for this set of tapings.
