Preview: AEW Rampage Grand Slam (9/24/21)

AEW Rampage Grand Slam

If you think one hour is great, two will be even better as AEW Rampage hails from New York this week. All Elite Wrestling emanates from Arthur Ashe Stadium for the Grand Slam edition of everyone’s Friday night wrestling habit. Grand Slam week in “The Big Apple” will be capped off by two hours of Rampage filled to the brim with pay-per-view-worthy matches for free on national television. All Elite Wrestling‘s debut in New York will be brighter than the lights of Broadway as the marquee will have multiple contests that will leave fans wanting more. Simply put, AEW Rampage Grand Slam is a must-see event.

This week, on a very special edition of Rampage, the “Super Kliq” rides again as they take on a Boy and His Dinosaur as they team up with the IMPACT Wrestling World Champion. “The Best In The World” takes on his toughest test yet as he goes up against the brute force of Team Taz in the former’s first televised match in over seven years. Last, but certainly not least, an unsanctioned down and dirty brawl will take place as “The Mad King” and AEW’s resident “Death Rider” goes up again “The King” and “The Murderhawk Monster” in what’s sure to be a bloody battle for the ages. That’s not all; AEW has more in their back pocket to satisfy the savage need for wrestling action. We don’t want to keep you waiting any longer. Let rampage ensue on a Friday night in New York as we run it down.

AEW Rampage Grand Slam Card:

  • Anna Jay vs. Penelope Ford
  • Lucha Brothers, Santana & Ortiz (w/Alex Abrahantes) vs. Private Party, The Butcher & The Blade (w/Matt Hardy & The Bunny)
  • Men Of The Year (w/Dan Lambert) vs. Chris Jericho & Jake Hager
  • Adam Cole & Young Bucks vs. Christian Cage & Jurassic Express
  • Powerhouse Hobbs (w/Hook) vs. CM Punk
  • Lights Out Match: Eddie Kingston & Jon Moxley vs. Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer

Testing “The Best In The World”

Fresh off his tremendous battle against Darby Allin back at All OutCM Punk will take on probably his toughest opponent since his return to professional wrestling in the form of Powerhouse Hobbs. Punk has made it explicitly clear that he wants to step into the ring with the cream of the crop AEW has to offer. He has mentioned opponents left and right, but Taz himself took exception to the fact Punk wants to test his might against one of Team Taz’s best.

The situation snowballed last week when Powerhouse Hobbs took out CM Punk while he was on commentary duties and assaulted him on the announcer’s desk. Hobbs would taunt the “Straightedge Star” by assuming his famous pose on top of the rampway. This situation will not get resolved by just mere words; it needs to get settled in the ring as these two combustible elements want nothing more but to teach the other a lesson in respect.

This leads us to this Friday night. Powerhouse Hobbs is afraid of no one, even if you’re indeed the best in the world at what you do. Hobbs takes pleasure in beating people down and putting them in their place. However, if CM Punk has anything to say about it, he will not let this one slide. This was once a match many fans want to see to something more personal than any of us could’ve ever expected and it goes down on the two-hour AEW Rampage Grand Slam. Will Powerhouse Hobbs be able to back up his actions or will CM Punk shut up the big brute on his way to a win in his first televised match in over seven years?

Lights Out, Violence On

Minoru Suzuki has had enough of the so-called “disrespect” he has amassed since his arrival at AEW. “The Suzuki Incident,” as many called it, wherein “The King” felt that there was a conspiracy against him in his match with Jon Moxley from weeks ago on AEW Dynamite in Mox’s hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. From his entrance music being abruptly cut off to supposed referee and company favoritism towards Moxley, Suzuki is taking matters into his own hands to make sure nothing like that ever happens again. Suzuki has enlisted the assistance of Suzuki-gun running mate “The Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer as they take on Mox and “The Mad King” Eddie Kingston in an unsanctioned Lights Out Match.

Moxley and Kingston do not back down, even from “The Final Boss” of New Japan Pro-Wrestling or a ravenous ravaging monster. They will step up to the plate even more in the face of overwhelming adversity. Moxley and Kingston two have been through hell and back together, so what’s one more trip down that path? Suzuki and Archer will certainly take exception to this “take no prisoners attitude” of theirs and there will surely be hell to pay in this no rules, no mercy fight. As Suzuki said, “Suzuki-gun Ichiban Number One,” and that statement will be put to the test in the hands of Moxley and Kingston. Grand Slam week will surely go off with a bang. Whether you take that phrase figuratively or literally one thing’s for sure; you do not want to miss this only on TNT this Friday night.
